Default navigation problem

Recently whenever I use my navigation the icon the follows the highlighted road is off to the side of the road and it follows it like its still navigating maybe a couple hundred feet or couple miles it will do it. I have the a4 card from the dealer when I got the truck I only have 2400 miles right now

It worked properly before? Have you put on different tires?

Different tires have nothing to do with the navigation system.

You could put the GPS in your pocket and it still works!

I'm pretty sure the MFT does use the vehicle's own speed to determine where it's at so different sized tires will affect it. Not sure on the 09-12 nav.

The vehicle speed measured off the tires and the magnetic compass DOES affect the MFT system. I have the same problem as the OP and my dealer states Ford is aware of it and there isn't a fix yet.

To support this I spun my rear tires on my icy driveway. I didn't move an inch physically, but watched my truck move forward on the screen.

My biggest challenge is not getting the tire size right within the computer, but spinning the tires a bit in the snow messes it up big time.

I have the same issue with my GPS. I am driving down the highway but it will show me on the feeder road. It doesn't sound like a big deal but when you are on surface streets it is a big deal. It is off 3-4 blocks sometimes so I miss my turn. But strangely, about 50% of the time, it shows my location accurately.

I think the issue is related to bigger tires. My truck was delivered just before Christmas and I immediately sold the Pirelli's for $100 apiece to Discount Tire and put on Michelin AT/2s 275/65/20.

So, my speedo is off 5 MPH at 65 MPH. The dealer was not able to calibrate the speedo and told me "Ford won't let us calibrate the trucks like we used to". Not sure if this is BS, but I don't care as I am not going to rely on the dealer to calibrate my speedo.

I am going to buy a SCT Tuner and custom tunes from 5 Star Tunes and let then properly calibrate my speedo. I hope it works as well as everyone says.

I wonder why Ford made the GPS speed dependent. Perhaps for faster location acquisition similar to how a cell phone uses cell tower triangulation to aid GPS satellite location. Dunno.

So, bigger tires = incorrect GPS + incorrect speedo that dealer cannot calibrate + sluggish shifting/bad MPG because dealer cannot calibrate speedo. (wish someone would have told me this beforehand). Thank god for custom tunes!

By the way, I'm averaging 12 MPG with 275/65/20 tires, SCREW, 4x4, 3.73 with Ecoboost after my first 1800 miles. City 75%, Highway 25%.

Pretty dreadful MPG!!!

But I bought the Ecoboost for the torque. I can "baby" the truck to try to get 15MPG, but that is really unrealistic to expect a truck owner to not drive it like a truck. Just not in our DNA.

I sure hope Ford fixes this glitch. The number of people that change tires sizes on trucks is huge. Not to mention some wheel spin on a correctly calibrated truck. I would think this would have been realized before they completed the firmware or whatever on the NAV.

Here is a list of tires my dealer says can be programmed into the computer:

255/65/17
265/50/18
235/75/17
245/75/17
265/70/17
275/45/22
275/55/20
275/65/18
315/70/17

So the diameter range is about 30-34.5".

This needs a fix.

My dealer says there are only a handful of reports of this problem at Ford so far. Please speak up. Maybe we can add some awareness and get this on their to do list.

Nope I didn't change my tires got the stock ones still. I know there is an auto feature on the navigation which zooms in or out based on your current speed

Oh my gawd...

Order the new MFT chip. That will fix it. I am literally ROFL'ing at the tire size proposition... The tires have nothing to do with the GPS.

My truck does the same thing. Thought about calling the dealer and asking if they are aware of this and if there is a fix or software update.
