It's a piece of crap! The key wouldn't go in so I oiled it and finally got it in, but it wouldn't turn. I snapped the key off in the hole. I needed to remove it so I put a small flathead in the part that slides and the cheap piece of crap opened right up. Don't waste your money on it.
Mine is on its second truck now and has performed well. No problems with the key working at all.
While it may be a bit redundant because I tend to keep my tailgate locked as well, it's a nice piece of inexpensive security.

to you, probably. not to those who get in and out and it becomes nuisance to lock and unlock constantly. I have a McGard tailgate lock on mine and it's perfect as extra insurance.
I use my bed/tailgate a lot, it takes an extra few seconds and I occasionally think "dammit" when I have something in my hands and it's locked. I'd probably go with one of the electric lock add-on solenoids so my key-fob would lock/unlock before going with the hinge lock. I agree a locked tailgate can be a pain at times though.
They can pop the factory lock in a few seconds. I have the Masterlock and keep my Factory unlocked. I do that so a thief will lower my tailgate without breaking anything, see the ML and move on. Otherwise, they bust the factory lock, then see the ML and I'm screwed. Plus it's nice because of the prior statements about quick loading and not having your keys handy.
