LED Bedlights
I checked almost every wire in the sill and couldn't find the right one. After getting very frustrated I figured out that running the wire up to the cargo light was actually very easy. It was just pulling down the rubber door seal, popping off the two rear headliner pins, and unscewing the cargo light. The extra 4 feet of wire was worth getting the project done!
I just finished installation of LED strip lights under the bed rails. I tapped into the cargo light as well. The waterproof LED strips are great but make sure you solder on some leads before you attach!
I also used some epoxy to glue them up because the self stick adhesive wasn't strong enough on the Line-X.

I used some flexible lights with 3M tape. I'm happy! I will get some night time photos later. And I used the cargo light wire. It was very easy to do

This is pretty cool, good thread. I think I'm going to end up doing it.
Hope I'm not being a pain, but the only thing i'm uncertain of is the wiring. Op's tapping into the trailer harness seemed quit involved. Is the gray/purple wire for the cargo lamp always hot? Seems like that would be easier to do.

I had installed these when i firsr got my truck. I had the cheap led strips kicking around the garage from ebay, they were a perfect into the channel on a Peragon cover. Been six months and still going strong. I ran a 12v wire from the cap and put a rocker switch in one of the roles on the bed side near tailgate.
Love the hard-wired LED's, but a day or two before a camping trip, I put in a low-tech low-effort solution that has worked out surprisingly well....
I bought two battery operated motion sensor LED under-counter lights at costco, but it looks like they sell them on Amazon as well. AA batteries, light sensor, & motion sensor. Switch can be off, on, or on-with-motion. They come with a screw-on mount and/or double sided tape, but I put some hook-side heavy duty velcro on the back and slapped them on to my bedrug. They stick perfectly!
The nice thing about them is there is no need for a switch... I have a low-pro QT cover, and if I open up the tailgate, the lights come on. Close it, they go off in a few seconds. 4 months later, and the batteries are still going strong and the light strips have not budged from their mounting location despite many many miles of washboards and jeep trails. Plenty of light as well.
I planned on this being a short term solution, but honestly, it is working out so well I am in no rush at all to wire in LED's, and if I did, I would definitely want to add a switch for the lights to come on automatically with the tailgate.
