Hope I'm not being a pain, but the only thing i'm uncertain of is the wiring. Op's tapping into the trailer harness seemed quit involved. Is the gray/purple wire for the cargo lamp always hot? Seems like that would be easier to do.
I used the purple and gray wire. It's only hot when ur cargo light is on. Super easy.

I bought two battery operated motion sensor LED under-counter lights at costco, but it looks like they sell them on Amazon as well. AA batteries, light sensor, & motion sensor. Switch can be off, on, or on-with-motion. They come with a screw-on mount and/or double sided tape, but I put some hook-side heavy duty velcro on the back and slapped them on to my bedrug. They stick perfectly!

The nice thing about them is there is no need for a switch... I have a low-pro QT cover, and if I open up the tailgate, the lights come on. Close it, they go off in a few seconds. 4 months later, and the batteries are still going strong and the light strips have not budged from their mounting location despite many many miles of washboards and jeep trails. Plenty of light as well.

I planned on this being a short term solution, but honestly, it is working out so well I am in no rush at all to wire in LED's, and if I did, I would definitely want to add a switch for the lights to come on automatically with the tailgate.
I like the looks of these. I already have hard wired LEDs in my bed but I'm thinking glove box and center console use. How bulky are they? Do you think they'd fit in those locations?

I like the idea - but I would think that with anything in the bed going down the road, and stuff bouncing a little under the tonneau, the motion sensor would keep the lights on, no?

Dear all,I'm gathering all info in prep for my mod...
One thing that I am not clear is why one has installed with remote on/off?
It is 15bucks and it controls on/off plus dimmer.....
Also, why not to install limit switch...... Isn't this why more techi?

Went to Wallmart today for something totally different, and saw a battery operated LED strip with RF remote for $10. It even included the velcro / double sided tape to mount the remote and light strip. Got it, installed it in 2 minutes, and I have to say it works just great! I will get another one for the other side - then I even have two remotes, one in the bed, right by the tail gate, and one in the cab.
I doubt that I'll have to replace the batteries more than once a year, as I won't use the lights for more than a few minutes every couple weeks or so. Awesome idea to install lights in the bed, especially since I have my Truxedo LoPro closed all the time!

Cool idea, no wiring involved!

I'm giving this a whirl myself. I'm not worried about it falsing on the road since it uses passive IR sensor, which shouldn't trip anything unless it's REALLY sliding around back there.

How much Velcro did you use to attach to your Bedrug? Just small strips on the swivel mounts, or did you run a long piece all the way down the back of the housing?

This is what Im installing in my canopy, behind the brake light facing toward the front of the truck.
The pictures of the wall is one with a 60w light and then the light plus LED(Only one pack)

I bought two packs to make 4' of lights, powered at the 3plug 12v hub with a toggle switch.

I also have strobe lights, black lights, and if i can find one, Ill install a disco ball lol

Strips across the back. Not using the swivel. Can't remember how long the strips were, but it was 2" wide velcro and they haven't moved even the slightest, despite plenty of miles on washboard roads and bigger bumps...
