Default Input needed before Monday

OK, about to become an f150 owner again. I put a $500 deposit down on a 2012 F150 supercrew Lariat today. According to the carfax it is only 13 months old. It has 64k miles on it, so clearly used as a commuter. Registered to someone clear out in country.

It has everything but a moon roof. Even has drop in bed liner. Would you be scared of a car that is soo new and has so much mileage on it? 5.0L motor with 3.73 electronic locking rear axle. Leather is in great shape, so is paint and it has new 10 ply tires on it. Its being offered by an Audi dealer and was a trade in. I'd be getting it for 26,995 which is under wholesale. My deposit is fully refundable if I find anything wrong with it when I go to sign papers on Monday. I plan on taking it out on the highway, how would I check for the shudder issue I see people complaining about with this truck?

Since its out of its powertrain warranty, my only concern is the transmission. They will offer me a 48k mile 4 year powertrain warranty through Ziegler (or something similar sounding) for 1700 bucks. Is it worth it?

My brother inlaw picked up a brand new 2013 supercrew last month for what you're paying. It is a 2wd with cloth interior so not exactly the same. If you're spending that much on a high mileage truck I'd look at new. Ford sometimes has 6 to 10k in incentives on the 5.0. My issues wouldn't be the mileage but the price.

a new lariat like this would be 40K, I looked. My budget is 26k, and this is a whole lot of truck for the money. Its 4x4, I'll put less than 7k miles per year on it since I'm not trading in my gas sipping car to buy it. It will only be used for trips to the mountains for camping and any ATV excursion I take. The 3.73 gears won't be very conducive to commuting. Plus, its only 13 months old so the original owner took all the depreciation hit for me. Dealers around here have 2010 lariats (4x4 with 5.4L motor mind you) for 26k and they don't have backup camera/sensors and 40k ish miles on the clock. My deposit is refundable (had manager put that in writing) if I don't like it on Monday so I just want to be sure I check everything out. The best part is I can have it paid off in CASH by the end of this year. I'm financing it to keep my capital liquid for other investment stuff I buy and sell on the side. but I like the idea of being able to go to the bank and pay it off in cash if I needed to.

I wouldn't worry about the miles as long as the price is right. I would expect a significant reduction in KBB or NADA value in order for it to make sense. Find the same used truck with normal miles and this one should be at least $9k cheaper. It's essentially a 5 year old truck with those miles on it. Someone picked an odd commuter vehicle. I wonder if it was a company truck used as a commercial vehicle.

its also out of factory warranty.........

stay away from extended warranties that aren't ford IMO. have heard some really bad things about 3rd party warranty claims.

but for a fairly loaded supercrew 4x4 i think the price is reasonable with that kinda mileage. but see if you can pick up fords esp on the truck.

Likely traded it to get a fuel efficient Audi.
Looks like a decent deal,
I'd consider the extended warranty, may be well worth it in long run
Try an get dealer to throw in the extend warranty....

So 64k miles over 13 months comes to an average of 4,923 miles a month! That's a lot of miles for a new vehicle. I wonder if it was used as a tow mule? I mean that's a lot of miles in 13 months and it has 3.73's which is the preferred towing rear end.

That's just speculation, but I would have a very skilled mechanic go over this truck with a fine tooth comb.

I could be wrong but I thought the shudder issue was only on the Ecoboost?

Price doesn't look that bad to me, some guys on here are apparently good at negotiating new truck prices. Shudder is mostly an ecoboost issue, different motor than what you're looking at. 5.0 seems to have less complaints on this forum, I know a few guys that love them.
