Default Engine Pinging

Lately I have been hearing my truck ping even running 91 Octane. It's when I am in first and hit around 1.6k RPMs, I hear it lug a bit and ping. Thinking it might need new spark plugs. Anybody done the change themselves? Thinking about ordering some NGKs and doing it myself.

Update: Yup changing them myself. Called local dealership, it's 750 to change spark plugs. Out of their fricken mind.

Here is the link to the DIY Guide - http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/F...ide/index.html

70$ for the plugs and if it takes you more than an hour to change
them out you shouldn't be operating machinery. J\K.
The 2011 has different specs than the later model year gaps.
0.045 should work well on your model year.

I agree. The main thing I am worried about is cross threading. It shouldn't be that bad but always have to be careful.

Just do it by hand and u won't have a problem. I like using a wobbly and threading the first few by hand so you can tell if its tightening up too fast. Don't forget the torque wrench!

Yeah, there is a DIY guide on how to replace em that is just amazing for help. I might order some NGKs and do it in a couple of weeks, pretty sure we have a spark plug socket. Do you know the torque specs for the plugs?

Try not to do it while the engine is hot. Had some troubles actually stripping the threads coming out of a hot engine.

Oh and by the way. I have the same issue as you. I was speaking with sodacraft and he also said it was a good idea to even check the gap when you remove your old plugs. Believe he said there was an issue about the 5.0 plugs being gapped to the eco boost spec. I'll be checking this weekend.

I've been hearing the same noise in mine, brought it to the for dealer and turns out it's timing chain trouble with only 70K on it.....Just something to look into

Ouch. That's not good news. I bought my truck with 12k and I just clicked 40. Hope all goes well.

Where are you getting your gas from? I had a 2004 Mustang GT, bolt ons, tune, etc., and she only liked Shell or BP gas. I ran nothing but 93 octane in her from day one, and the cheaper places around town definitly had poor quality gas. It would ping like crazy and I would have to get some octane booster from the auto parts store. The 2012 3.7L Mustang I bought my fiance showed 1.5MPG increases running BP 93 octane vs the cheaper brands in town.

Here's a few pictures of her, should have never sold her :/
