lol - I love it when they give you the "don't believe what you read" line. Got that with a known issue on a Pontiac when owners across the U.S. were complaining about the lack of replacement parts. Asked the service manager "So you think people are just sitting at home making this stuff up?" (GM ended up paying for a rental for over 3 months while I waited for the part!)

I bought my '12 used in '14 and it went back 2 days after I took delivery for the failed pump. Nearly had to bill them for cleaning my front seat as I damn near put the truck through my garage at start up.

It's started making noise again but hasn't failed - yet. Thinking about shopping for the replacement now before I need it.

FORD has just released a recall on this 10 Years/150k miles. Check out ford tech Macalucos video on youtube. Recall 15N05 can't find any other info online yet.

Apparently if you paid for it previously you have until July 2016 to apply for reimbursement.

Oh and says to make sure you have the updated vacuum harness that pulls from the intake.

Called Dealer it's legit. Truck is scheduled in for friday morning.

They replace the pump and the Vac harness going to it.

Get yours before all the parts are back ordered!

Some additional info off the NHTSA site. It's long, but there's some interesting reading. I bolded some parts of particular interest. There is no mention on the NHTSA site of this being upgraded to a recall. Watching the video, this might not be a "recall", but an extension of warranty. Splitting of hairs, but this could be important because recalls sound worse than warranty issues. Ford got the water ingestion issue to go away by proving to NHTSA that they had resolved the problem through updates. Besides it puts an end date on the repairs which doesn't happen with a recall.


SUMMARY:
On June 22, 2015, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE15-026 to investigate incidents of increased brake pedal effort at cold start and extended stopping distance while driving in traffic, resulting from failures of the electric brake vacuum assist pump in model year (MY) 2011-2012 Ford F-150 pickup trucks equipped with 3.5L GTDI engines. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR) for PE15-026, Ford provided ODI with 396 complaints and field reports relating to incidents of increased brake pedal effort or malfunctions in the electric vacuum pump (EVP). ODI's analysis of the data provided by Ford identified 7 crashes and 1,851 warranty claims related to either a hard brake pedal condition or reduced brake effectiveness. Additionally, ODI identified one report in its database alleging an injury to an occupant of a vehicle struck in the rear by a subject F-150 vehicle with a failed EVP as documented in the police accident report referencing a dealer assessment of the pump.

According to Ford, the subject vehicles utilize a traditional brake vacuum booster to provide power assist for braking and the EVP is intended to operate to maintain consistent brake pedal feel. The engine intake manifold is the primary source of vacuum for the booster and is fully compliant to motor vehicle safety standards without the EVP. Ford described the conditions related to a change in brake pedal feel as limited and temporary and provided component failure analysis showing evidence of water entry into the EVP which caused internal pump corrosion. Ford indicated that the EVP failure mode is progressive and provides warning to operators by way of noise and vibration before an operator is likely to experience any temporary change in brake pedal feel. Damage to the EVP motor bearing may eventually result in a blown EVP fuse and total loss of EVP function.

Ford provided test data showing the brake pedal forces and pedal travel curves over time for 0.3g decelerations to a stop from 80kph (50mph) for: 1) normal system (full engine and EVP vacuum available); 2) Ford's approximation of worst case booster performance with EVP failure (EVP disabled and booster vacuum regulated to 300mbar to simulate cold start, all accessory loads on, and starting at 0 vacuum); and 3) with all source vacuum to the brake booster removed and Hydraulic Boost Compensation (HBC) active to represent complete loss of brake booster function. The Ford tests showed that the brake pedal forces required for achieving the 0.3g decelerations were relatively low for the normal condition, 35-40 N (8-9 lbf), increased by approximately 2-3 times normal when the EVP is disabled, 75-115 N (17-26 lbf), and increased by about 5-6 times normal for the complete brake booster failure condition, 205-215 N (46-48 lbf). This Preliminary Evaluation has been upgraded to Engineering Analysis (EA15-006) to test for EVP malfunctions under other vehicle operating conditions (e.g., low-speed driveway braking after cold-start with failed EVP), potential human factors contributions and to further assess the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect.

This is not a recall... It is a n program.... Extended coverage on the pump... 10 years 150 k miles... I believe it is a one time repair also...

This is good news. My pump was replaced about 18 months ago. I've been hearing occasional noises from under the hood that I'm guessing is the pump.

Okay listen to this lol.

I'm at dealer right now. They say that because I'm still under power train warranty that they have to cover it under that warranty and not this new extended warranty for 10years or 240k km.

I asked to make sure the vacuum harness is being changed as per the new extended 15N05 she assures me it is.


Now last year I had inquired at a different dealer the one that did my phasers and timing chains. They told me the vacuum pump was only covered under the 3yr/60k km bumper to bumper.


So now mine is being replaced under the power train warranty. But the part numbers are different and looks like I'm getting the new but older pump not the updated one from this 15N05. She said don't worry if it happens again it's still covered under the 15N05.


WOW. Why would ford not cancel out all previous TSBs and update the system to provide the new 15N05 deal?

New vac hose installed. They cap the hose from intake.

Recall on 2012 EcoBoost electric vacuum pump. Warranty for electronic vacuum pump extended to a total of 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. If milage has past the 150,000, coverage will last until July 2016 and is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.
Indications of a problem include excessive noise from left front fender area while applying brakes, particularly when vehicle is first started...a change in brake pedal feel or effort when first started...blown fuse F64 in the power distribution box.
All costs, parts and labor, are covered.
If you have already paid to have this service done before February 2016, you may be eligible for a refund for the service related to the replacement of the electric vacuum pump. To verify eligibility and expedite reimbursement, give your original receipt to your dealer before July 30, 2016. To avoid delays, do not send receipts to Ford Motor Company.
...The above information was taken directly from my recall letter. FYI...the 2012 EcoBoost also has a recall on the rear axle to be inspected for cracks/fractures.
