Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio
Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Can Sync default to Bluetooth Audio?
#911
Hey guys just finished reading some of your comments I have a 2010 f-150 with sync 1 and the big screen I have an iPhone and it connects to my truck right away but won’t default to Bluetooth I currently am running 4.4 when I got the truck it connected automatically but since I upgraded it stopped wish I never did it but I’m stuck now I have thought about trying to connect someone’s android and see if it automatically connects I’ll keep you posted when I do

So I brought up this issue to ford and they told me that the old way was a mistake and this current way is how it will be from now on I asked if I can downgrade my software they said no so now I’m looking for someone with gen 1 - version 3.1 that’s what I had before my upgrade and it worked fine

Bluetooth fix
I traded my 2003 F150 FX4 in for a 2013 XLT (My Ford Sync without Navigation) and I cannot default the Sync system to bluetooth audio. It reverts to Line-In every time I start the ignition.
I drove a 2010 Ford Fusion for a while (rental) that was able to remember I was streaming audio from my Galaxy S4 smartphone when I got out to get gas (for example). It would reconnect and start playing automagically when I returned to the vehicle. It seems I can't get Sync do this in my 2013 truck.
So to play streaming music over bluetooth, I have to either navigate through the menus on the dash or I have to press the Sync button and say "Bluetooth Audio" then press it again and say "Play". Occassionally (rarely) I have to turn off bluetooth on the phone and turn it back on before it will connect. It's annoying because I have to jump through these hoops every time I get in the truck.
Does anyone have a way to get Sync to 'remember' this instead of always reverting back to Line-In?

I figured out the bluetooth fix on my sinc 2 system. I deleted all the other homes except mine. I labeled it as the favorite. Now my phone connected immediately to bluetooth each time I get in the truck

Ok, so recently picked up a 2012 with the base Sync system and noticed this default to line in BS, so started putzing around with it. Made an interesting, and possibly disturbing discovery.
I ended up going through the three menus to select "Bluetooth Audio" before a long drive home, then parked the truck over night. Next morning, I cary my work gear out, put the key in the ignition, and put the truck in Accessory mode. While loading my backpack in the rear seat all of a sudden my stereo starts playing music. I look, and the stereo is showing "Bluetooth Audio" as the source. I check my phone and sure enough, the song playing on the stereo is the one that shows as playing in Pandora. I think "Cool, that problem is fixed." Climb into the drivers seat, put the seat belt on, and start the truck. No more music. The display shows Sync Line In. Then it dawned on me -- the Sync system stays running after you set it, and does not turn off. However, when you start the engine, power is interrupted to the Sync system, so it "reboots" when you start the truck. THIS returns it to the default status of Line In for Sync Media.
The disturbing part of this is that after thinking about it a bit I realized that Ford may not have "fixed" the problem they were trying to (draining batteries because of bluetooth), but just cosmetically made the "problem" disappear at startup. What if the phone is still connected to the Sync system after shutdown? Is the battery they are trying to keep from draining the one in the phone or the one in the truck?
I know I am missing quite a bit of information, as I have only had to deal with the situation for a couple of weeks, but it did get my gears turning....

I've had a 2011 F 150 for a few years now, the sync issue going to line in every time I got back in was definitely frustrating but I just thought that's the way it was and dealt with it. I recently purchased a new Explorer for the wife and got poking around in the My Ford apps after activating her vehicle and decided to enter my F 150 into the "my vehicles" section, I found there was a sync update for my truck and decided to give it a go...after endless frustration trying to get it to work, I started google searching and ended up here. finally got the update to work (thank you F150 forum!) and now my Galaxy S9 seamlessly connects up to sync and plays off my phone from where it left off as soon as I start it up, and even displays song title and artist.
now to start playing with the forscan stuff...

how the hell did you manage to get the update to work? I am still trying to get that one done. Of course, I am assuming I have a Sync system and not a Sync 2, so maybe I am not trying the right update.

I had a hell of a time getting it to accept the update, mine is the Sync one with no nav. the Ford site said to format the thumb drive to exFAT so I did that but it wouldn't work. tried three times and then started searching the internet. everything on this site said to format to FAT32 and extract the files from the download straight to the thumb drive. that worked for me, it took the update and works great. I used a Kingston 16 gig thumb drive.
I entered my son's 2012 Fusion into the My Ford app and there was a Sync update for it as well, used the same thumb drive and process and it worked for his Fusion as well. he was pretty happy.

Ok, I will give that a shot. Thanks for figuring this out for me.
As usual, following the instructions was my problem. That proved true for the stereo install I helped my 17 year old with in his 2003 Ranger yesterday.

Ok, mashed up a couple of sets of instructions and got the update to run. Now it DOES keep bluetooth audio as the source after multiple starts.
Thanks guys!
