Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio

Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

I can now get in the truck, start it and resume podcast or playlist w/o having to request "bluetooth media".
Any recommendations on where abouts to go for the software?

Default Fixed

Hey there y'all! So I had been having very similar annoying experiences with sync and having to go through the menu every time, couldn't find an answer anywhere online but I found it on my phone!

So I have an LG G4, basically all I had to do was go to settings->display->lock screen->smart lock-> trusted devices and then I had to add my cars bluetooth and a trusted device. Now it connects and plays automatically! Hooray!

Can someone tell me how to find the screen that displays the version currently installed?

I can't believe this thread was started over 5 years ago and this is still an issue. Has nobody found a work around? I've debated getting an aftermarket head unit but my truck has the big screen, nav, climate control, etc. I wonder if the people behind lockpick would be able to change this internal default setting?

There's no way to set it to do that, it just does it, and it's not perfect (sometimes it starts up on FM for me), but it does work that way most of the time.

This is just for the base Sync; I don't have MFT, so I don't know what the touchscreen versions do.

Oh wow... I was really afraid I might find this when I went searching for Sync info. I'm in the process of working a deal for a 2012 Lariat with basic Sync. (no Nav) I'm buying from a Ford dealer, so I will ask them to confirm what version of Sync has been installed, and to update if not 4.6. Correct, that is the latest?

I'l be taking the vehicle on Friday for an all weekend test drive, then finalizing the deal on Monday. If I'm not happy with Sync, this could be a deal killer. Ease of use for audio system and seamless phone/vehicle communication is a must have.

Any other suggestions? Other than buy a Toyota! LOL, I already considered that, and read their systems weren't really much better, plus eliminated them due to fuel consumption.

Are there any good aftermarket systems that work seamlessly with the vehicle?

Defiantly upgrade it to the latest. I am not sure but last I knew 4.6 was the last update. Overall the system works great. The main annoyance here is if you start the truck and your phone is not in range immediately the source defaults back to line in. Some slower phones have worse trouble, flagship phones like the galaxy S series tend to work much better. Reguardless the handfree phone system is totally reliable as it works in any mode. This annoyance only applies to playing music over the bluetooth connection. If it does end up in a different mode you just press the voice control button on the steering wheel and say "bluetooth audio" and it will force an attempt to connect and change the input.

Perhaps this is true for the basic system, but not so with the Sony Nav. I've run everything from 4.4 and up, currently on 4.6. The truck has not defaulted to Bluetooth a single time in the 4 years that I've owned it. I'm currently using an iPhone XS, so I don't believe the phone is the issue. The first gen Sync with Sony Nav is garbage from a user standpoint, and I'd rip it out and replace it were it not north of $2k to do it right.

OK, thanks, That makes me feel a little better. I've got a Galaxy S8, so I'm good there. I also listen to a lot of radio, so switching back and forth is not a big inconvenience as long as it's easy to do. Good to hear that the calling capabilities are also reliable and that voice commands work well. Hopefully the test drive will go well and I will like everything else about the truck. I'm just a bit apprehensive as I'm used to driving sporty cars. Coming from an Audi A5 coupe so will definitely have some adjusting to do in my driving habits - LOL!

You will be pleasantly surprised . The F150 handles great and has tons of power. I had a 2009 for 5 years and just upgraded to a 2015 with the 3.5 Eco Boost, If you can swing a 2015 or newer with the 3.5 do it, so much fun to drive.

I have a 2013 with the 4.2" screen. It seems without fail, once every 4 weeks or so that my phone will stop playing music through the speakers. If I measured the time I am sure it would be nearly the same between each instance.

I can be listening to music through Bluetooth, and it just randomly goes to "paused". I press play on the phone, and the song continues playing, but no sound comes out of my phone or the truck.

Everytime this happens, it also stops recognizing my voice commands. I can press the voice button and say something, but it never picks up what I am saying. This is fixed by unplugging the battery for 5-10 minutes, but it gets pretty annoying.

Is there a fix to this, or at least an easier way to reset it? Resetting sync through the menu doesn't work, and I never have to repair my phone to the truck after, so it doesn't seem to be a pairing issue.

Also, my daily drive is 50 minutes one way to work, and at about the 40 minute mark of every drive of purely listening to Bluetooth, it will skip for a second in whatever song is playing at the time, which makes it seem like it could be due to the same issue.
