Default Battery Problem

3 or 4 days in a row battery is full charged. Truck starts right up.

Come out next day and the battery is completely dead.

Any idea?

Thanks

I was dealing with this but my battery light went off. Took to shop and got battery and alternator tested was getting charged. So he said maybe the battery was bad not holding a charge over night. So I got new battery and since then it has been fine so could b a bad battery.

Batteries are better now in my mind. That being said, I won't go past 5 years into year 6 of winter. It's preventive maintenance in my mind and plenty cheap for good quality batteries. And good service without an issue at Sam's Club.

You need to have the battery tested, it could be bad. If the battery is good than you have a draw on the system and you need to start looking for circuits that are pulling amperage with the truck and key off.

He provided a list of possible issues.

It's impossible for someone on a forum to diagnose the exact reason that you are having this problem. Does that make sense to you?

Actually, some of those probably were proved to NOT be the poster's problem. But yes, it could be any part of any electrical system in your truck. The ignition and shifter are VERY common, if you actually have a draw. Most common seems to be the BMS slowing shortening the life of batteries, and then a new battery is the answer. Also, maybe unplug the BMS sensor to prevent more damage. Keep in mind, these batteries these days hold often on to a higher charge longer, and die suddenly. They don't always wind down with the same indications that batteries 40 years ago gave.

What concerns me is your first post. Have you only owned the truck for 4 days? Why would you give a starting point in your story like that? What happened before that?

It is a 2013 Ford F150 Limited that I bought new.

Nothing happened before that. Just happen.

The problem got really bad this morning. The battery was dead and the door would not open.

I had to call AAA to come get the door open. For some reason the keys would not open the door.

After he got the door open I install a new battery and it started right up.

The biggest thing I didn't understand was that the door then unlocked with the key.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Thanks

You need to get this diagnosed properly. It's possible your security system could be damaged and is shutting the truck off when it's not supposed to. It's possible it could be a severe draw. Maybe one of the main computers going bad could do this (PCM or BCM?), I'm not sure. Maybe the main fuse right at the battery.
