My parasitic load is unknown cause they can not ever isolate it. It seems to happen when in sleep mode and they can never catch it as its happening. Their guessing that whatever it is draws amps cause it kills the battery dead in just several hours. The resting load is within factory specs and it is in the minimal range but I forget what the number is. Something very low and not enough to come close to killing battery overnight.

Thanks for the response. I hope you get this thing nailed down soon. I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I want to know what the culprit ends up being.

So all this time on the dealer lot, does it just sit and they check it each morning or do they have equipment connected?

They should be able to connect recording equipment and at least put a time and amp draw to it. Start with the main battery connection and move the recorder around until they find the offending circuit.

But then again, that may be outside their capabilities.

Have you been in contact with the Ford rep on this board?

Brief update first. Still nothing. No call back from my "Regional Claim Manager" in regards to what Ford can or will do for me. No call from dealership service dept. Truck has been in their hands for nearly 2 weeks now and I am without a vehicle. Almost funny now as to how lame this is. I am reluctant to sign the attorney's document that turns them loose because I feel arbitration could work if Ford would ever call me.
Anyhow, the last time I saw the truck it was hooked up to diagnostic equipment and they had a guy dedicated to it that was chasing whatever he could find. Battery out and doing stuff everyday, supposedly. Giving it one more day before I call Ford and service dept to find out WTF.

Oh yeah, I have not been in contact with the Ford rep on this board but with Ford directly which put me in contact with regional claim mngr who is supposedly reviewing my case and was to call me days ago.

Finally some news. Just got a call from my Ford service dept and they are saying that per the directions of Ford Corporate they believe they have found the problem and fixed it. Since the repair 3 days ago the truck has started every morning and had no battery drain issues at all. They are willing to give me my truck back and see for myself. At this point I desperately need a vehicle so I am going to have to give it a try.
Called Ford customer service to see WTF with Regional Claim Manager ever calling back, was put on hold for 5 minutes then told he would call me today. He called about 15 mins later and told me this. Ford has come to figure out that the rear view camera that is located on tailgate has something like 4 plugs in the cord that travels back to rear view mirror where screen is when backing up. These plugs need more dialectic grease in them because other wise they short out at night and turn on whole system repetitively resulting in a dead battery. They have done this and so far so good. Could this be the answer. I hope so. Will pick up truck tomorrow and find out shortly. Meanwhile keeping leash on attorney and see what happens.
Ford Claim Mngr was very helpful, understanding and considerate although it did take a bit longer than I would of preferred. He is also offering some compensation in the form of a maintenance plan for 3 years that I feel is a nice gesture. We have worked out an agreement about what if this happens again and at least a rental car will be offered the day I bring it in. I will believe that when I see it. Hopefully I don't.
Will post results soon.

Exclamation

what's the explanation for this happening for those who don't have this configuration?

Pretty much no extras like this on an XLT. No back up camera.

Not sure. You have this problem but do not have backup camera?

Sounds like they added grease to the connector to displace moisture.

I can believe that moisture in that plug could be the cause. For it to happen only over night I would think it would have to be parked outside with heavy dew. Did it ever happen when garaged? If so, then why would overnight matter? Did the dealer have to leave it outside overnight for it to happen? Etc., etc., etc.

Hope it is fixed now. Keep us posted.
