Nothing happened before that. Just happen.

The problem got really bad this morning. The battery was dead and the door would not open.

I had to call AAA to come get the door open. For some reason the keys would not open the door.

After he got the door open I install a new battery and it started right up.

The biggest thing I didn't understand was that the door then unlocked with the key.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Thanks
Did you have the battery tested?

I tested the battery and it showed it was bad but it wasn't full charged at the time.

It wasn’t fully charged because it was needing replacement....

Since I put the new battery in it has been right at 12.7volts. I am hoping that was the problem.

I have not driven since I put the new battery in it.

Thanks you the help guys.

Voltage only tells part of the story, a load test tells the rest. If your other battery was load tested and was bad than a new battery is the obvious fix, if it was just low charge voltage because there is a draw in the system or your charging system wasnt properly charging the battery then your new battery was a waste of money. Its likely the battery was bad, but it always is a good idea to load test the battery and and check the charging system before spending the $$ on a new battery.

I unplugged that wire on the alternator a long time ago. It now charges 14.6 volts all the time.

I pull a 14 X 7 enclosed trailer that has a battery in it to run my winch for pulling my cart in.

I have a volt meter so I can see what the alternator is doing all the time.

When I close the door the overhead light and the dash lights always went out.

Now the overhead lights go out but sometimes the dash lights don't go out and the battery goes dead.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.

Start with ignition is my thought. See if moving the key while in ignition, turned to off, makes anything happen with lights. Or if it jiggles excessively.
