2013 Sync 2 to 2017 Sync 3 Conversion Attempted
#21
Well I got my GPS working with another antenna.
This is the one I ordered that worked
GPS Antenna on Amazon
Since it has a magnet on it I mounted it on the top of the screen.
Also as promised here are my APIM settings. Compared to my original APIM there is only a few changes. The only issue I have now is Sync can't tune to radio by voice. I don't know if this is a Sync3 2.0 issue or an issue with my conversion. I make no guarantee these settings will work for your vehicle. I recommend you look at the spreadsheet in the 2015+ forscan thread.

I'm currently trying to do this swap. I'm looking at the brackets though and I'm trying to find out the best approach. I don't have machine shop tools so grinding and bending aren't going to be too easy. I'm wondering how you ended up getting the difference in width to work out. I can't tell what you did from the pic you uploaded.

On the GPS antenna error I had that when I used a different GPS antenna. The one I used that worked is linked in the post you quoted. I'm unsure on the other error. Hopefully you have it figured out since its been a while since your post.

If I remember correctly I did open up the hole the pin goes into on the dash. I don't have the other pics I took but I believe one side was slotted and the other wasn't so I slotted the one that wasn't. I didn't have to remove much material. Next time I take the dash apart I'll take a pic since I don't remember 100%.
I didn't have much tools either. I did mine with a dremel and a drill. I'd still like to design a 3D printed bracket.

Hi all.
Long time lurker who posts from time to time when I do a mod or have a question. A brief overview though:
I recently purchased a 2013 FX4 with 402A equipment package. This is to replace my 2006 FX4 that I went from 6CD --> Android tablet -->AppRadio 3 and finally a Kenwood with Android Auto and Carplay for my son (I'm giving him my old truck). While I searched for a vehicle I really started to like Android Auto on the kenwood. It is simple and just works compared to past headunit solutions I had.
So missing Android Auto and finding My Ford Touch a bit sluggish I'm attempting to convert MFT --> Sync 3. I purchased the following:
I had a few Bluetooth OBD2 adapters sitting around so I decided to give FORScan a try. Since the brackets of the F150 aren't close to the escape ones I modified them. I had to modify them so I could still use them on the MFT should I need to switch things back.
This presented a problem. The MFT screen has a step it in that the brackets fit into. The Sync 3 screen I used doesn't have this so the backets are actually spaced further apart than original. In the end I was able to get it to work but I may 3D print some brackets or make some that can be cut in sheetmetal should this all work.
Once the screen was secure I fired up FORScan. I was able to find some options that somewhat worked (see issues) and able to clear all DTCs based on information in the 2015 section and comparing as built data from other 2017 vehicles.
I have run into 2 main snags.
1. I am able to get auto climate control to work but the status doesn't change on the screen and I have no feedback to the temp setting on the dual zones (They state off). Additionally my truck has heated and cooled seats. I can add the icons to home but not the climate screen. I can change an option via FORScan that does show them on the climate screen but I get no function out of climate at all. The temp readouts for the zones are then blank. This means i have to use my physical buttons and there are none for the seats.
2. Presets on Radio and Sat radio do not work. I can set a preset but can't use them. I can direct tune the stations but If I tell Sync to tune a station it cannot do that either.
On the first issue I am at a loss. On the second I am hoping it is something on the ACM side. I'm going to look through more As Built data for 2017 and report back any findings.
Items currently working that wasn't when initially installed:

So missing Android Auto and finding My Ford Touch a bit sluggish I'm attempting to convert MFT --> Sync 3. I purchased the following:
- Sync 3 APIM and screen from 2017 Escape (SW ver 2.0)
- GPS Antenna with blue FAKRA connector

Items currently working that wasn't when initially installed:
- Navigation
- Sync identified as "Sync" vs "Escape"
- Day Night mode via headlight switch and display dim
- Backup sensor detection and correct options for backup camera
- Steering wheel controls
I plan on updating my APIM with your values as a start and see where that puts me. Thanks!

Double check the 2015 spreadsheet for the APIM settings. My truck is canadian so doesn't have HD radio. I was able to work it all out with the APIM setttings I posted. I just went back to the spreadsheet for 2015+ and stepped back through and everything worked once I found my mistakes. Well everything except voice tuning which I would never use anyway. As stated in my post only a few things changed compared to my original APIM with Sync 2.
I have a 2014 F150 also with 402A package. I purchased an APIM from a Lincoln MKX, and got everything hooked up yesterday. I have the same 2 issues and only my steering wheel volume control is working. When I decided to do the ForScan stuff myself, I was thinking I would only have to re-program the APIM. Do you know if that's correct or do I need to flash as built data for the other modules also?
I plan on updating my APIM with your values as a start and see where that puts me. Thanks!

I just did this same conversion again but on my sons 2011 Edge. I again bought the wrong screen type since I couldn't find a stepped one. This time instead of modifying the brackets I decided to 3D print some in petg since the edge brackets are simplly a 90 degree bend. In all things went well.

I hope to start my conversion soon this week. I will take video and pictures to help others. Nice to know how easy it seems to be. I got my screen and APIM out of a 2017 f150. Putting it in my 2013 fx4. I'm sure I will have questions .

You won't regret it. If yours is the same as mine (if you use the As Built values here) keep in mind mine doesn't have HD Radio (my trucks canadian) so you will have to change that value in forscan to get HD. Also if it doesn't have Nav on the APIM. Mines been going great for over a year. I used MFT in my sons Edge for about a week and really missed Sync 3. Hopefully you got the USB hub as well. Good luck and post how it goes.
