I had to abort my project today. Brackets are totally different. I may have to see if they make remade retrofit brackets or if I can make my own. Anyone care to share what their work around was? Pictures if possible.

do the brackets from the sync 2 bolt up to the sync 3? Can you post pictures of what you have?

It looks as though you could dremel off the front curl around the screen of the sync 2 bracket and drill new holes to line up with the sync 3 screen, no? I wish I had a unit to compare as well. I would like to do this swap.

I had to file down the alignment "bubbles" on the Sync 3 screen and drill new holes in the brackets when I did my swap. Measure twice, drill once! My screen was out of a Mustang.

I'm going to trace the bracket on to some 16 gauge steel and cut it. Now if I only had measured before I reassembled my old unit before I installed it back in there. I'm just going to bend the metal and drill the holes to match. Does the front bend which goes in front of the screen serve any purpose? If not I will omit it from my bracket.

I 3D printed brackets for my 2011 Edge and didn't include that piece. I think its used as a brace for the surrounding bezel. On my 2013 F150 you can see my modified brackets in post 2. I notched the top and drilled holes for the screen (though I only show one mounting hole with screw in my photo I drilled the other out later). While this worked remember the mounting holes won't line up to the dash 100% anymore since they are farther apart. Same thing goes for the new brackets you make. The holes for the dash will need to come in some or the "wings" be a little shorter to make up for the wider mount of the SB screen.

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try and measure all points and distance for contact and spacing. I hope I can make the bracket as close to the factory geometry as possible. I hope to pull the unit today to start it.

Got it in place today with brackets I made. I will use 3m velcro tape to make it fit sung in the correct position on center. I just upgraded from a 2013 FX4 with 402A MFT Sync2 to Sync3. Does anyone know if I can decipher my VIN to get the correct APIM DTC codes?
