Never heard of buying, or not buying a vehicle based solely on how easy the oil change will be.

...and oil changes on these trucks are easy once you get the hang of it.

Insulting the guy does nothing.

OP, if you are not aware of this, you should be. Another poster mentioned it, but here is the link. Look up your engine if it is not a 5.0.

Designers and engineers don't design one engine for one truck "from the ground up". Engines are used in multiple vehicles and vehicles are design after engines are already in production. You can't just magically relocate an oil filter to put it into another location so it's easier to access. You can't just move a frame rail on a truck to give a clear access point to an oil filter.

And the most true rule of design is that once you make something idiot proof, somebody will build a better idiot.

I was at the 'quickie lube' this past spring...the attendant waved me over to the next bay and said 'hes going to be a while..we'll do yours over here'...I looked it was the Toyota Tundra(butt ugly of a truck) with the super TRD-off road package with extra desert , mountain and swamp package....the skid plates overlapped and you needed to pull them off to get to the oil drain and filter.....smart ?? The Japanese missed it on that one. The quickie lube guy said it would be a $80. oil change for him because of the extra work.

I am a former ASE mastertech(including a 4 year stint for Ford), and I too have given up changing my own oil. My time is just too valuable to be changing oil. I now give that job to the kiddies at the dealer. I did take peak down there, and I will say it could have been made more user friendly, but it's not impossible, just not as moronically simple as GM builds them.
