What a let down
Let me state with this first sentence that I like my truck. Its a 2014 F150 4X4 XLT Super Crew. But I am so absolutely let down that a company the size of Ford Motor Co. cares so little about the post purchase consumer. Have you ever tried to change the oil on a truck like this one? Its beyond ridiculous. The drain plug for the oil sump is partially blocked by a couple of metal hydraulic lines and then theres the big one inch thick brace that crosses almost directly underneath the drain. And then theres the oil filter. Jesus!!!! First, you can hardly see it. Then unless you a smaller person you can't get up in there with the necessary tools to remove it. You know, I've gotta believe that Ford has some of the best engineers in the business. And the fact that they can't design these two points to make it easier for Ford owners to perform their own regular maintenance is pathetic. So rather than rant any more on this subject, I'll just finish with this statement.... Before I ever purchase another Ford vehicle, I will inspect these two points. If it is still as ridiculous as it is in this truck, I WON"T BUY ANOTHER ONE. I hope someone from Ford reads this thread. If Chevy or Toyota or Dodge have a better design for performing regular maintenance, then thats the one I'll buy.
glad you joined
there are many how-to's on the best way and tricks to do an oil change on these trucks.
but hey, I saw a 1914 Model T the other day, it looked pretty easy to work on... dont give up on Ford quite yet

What drama... You didn't do any "design research" for the maintenance of your new purchase? But you start will now...?
I'm assuming you have an Ecoboost? If not, they're worse than the 5.0. You should trade your truck in for one, so we can hear you really rant...

Vehicles were never built to be worked on, they were built with ease and speed of assembly. The bottom $$$ is just that, besides, if everyone could work on them us mechanics/technicians might as well sell our homes and live under a bridge in a cardboard box (if were lucky).
If it makes you feel any better, I can't do what doctors and dentists do, I don't know how to work on aircraft or nuclear plant systems.
Good luck on your next purchase, I'll bet it pisses you off because you wont be able to change the air filter on it.

5.0s are really easy to change oil and filter. Filter is on front of engine so I only need a 3/8" rachet, a 6" extension, and a filter socket to remove it. I park my truck on some ramps so I can slide underneath from the front to reach filter and drain plug. Nothing in the way of drain plug either, but I do use the Fumoto drain valve and only have to use my fingers to open valve. So much easier and cleaner changing oil now.
