A larger gap increases mpg within certain limits. Your loss of MPG may be that the old plugs had an increased gap from wear? Try increasing your new plug gap.

There is a different gap on the 5.0 or Eco boost, I have a 5.0 and gap then at .045... I drove for 90 miles on the HWY at 65 MPH and it shows 18.2... I think if I go for a longer trip I probably will do the 19.+

Thanks

Here's what's crazy, my fuel economy is actually getting a little [I]better[I] as I continue to break in this truck.
Disclaimer: 2.7 ecoboost 4x2 (and I drive like a grandpa)

Well that's like a 3.0, I had a 96 Aerostar and I was getting 22MPH, I sold it last year and it only had 69K, I was the second owner. Newer cars are more fuel friendly this days compare to 10years ago. GOOD LUCK with your truck
THANKS

This is not an area of expertise as to comparing plug gap specs on different engines. It is my recollection that the EB gap spec was made smaller which solved some issues. It wasn't advertised that this does decrease MPG.

The plugs (Motorcraft) all came out of the boxes pregapped to spec. I'm not really interested in pulling them out and regapping them.

I am disappointed that new plugs dropped my already poor MPGs though.

I don't think anyone gets that new either. I do get tired of seeing it though.
