The Ultimate MPG thread.
I set a new short run record tonight !
Top of the Cochrane hill to Panorama Hills (Calgary) - run of 32 km, drove it 90km/hr the whole way in medium rain. Zero'd my Scan gauge and Truck MPG - result :
*not sure if the cooler air was a little more dense and helped the motor. Also - his tank has been a 91 octane tank - the truck REALLY likes the rich stuff.

I don't get it either, but all the hypermiling techniques were used (except following, nobody to follow so I was on my own on the road).
Pretty level on average, but no really flat either. some hills dropped the mpg by from 34-35 to like 30, but I made it back on the down hill
I can say that the truck mpg were VERY brittle - meaning if I gave it even a TINY bit more gas/throttle than I was at, they would start to drop a bit. Don't think I could've driven any better under any circumstances. Maybe it was just a Lucky run.
I had a chance to get on a flat 2 lane road yesterday with my 3.7L 2012 and cruise at 45 would put me in the low 30's I figure. 'Course the wife wasn't standing for it for long and we were back to the speed limit on the interstate...but it was nice for awhile
Plus one of those sites (Clean MPG I think?) ran an ecoboost a couple thousand miles with an average over 30 so it's definitely possible...but takes a pretty special way of driving.
I just stayed at the 45 mph. You can't Pulse and glide with the new trucks because when you put the truck in neutral, the truck will actually maintain your throttle position, keeping your RPMs where they would be if you were in gear - not sure why - but I would guess so there are no hard shift if you put it back into gear.

The problem I have is that I can't get 18mph when I accelerate and the coasting phase doesn't seem to last as long and I end up better at a constant speed. But people talk about pulse and glide all of the time and I just don't get it.
Yeah makes sense coasting in neutral wouldn't help if the rpm's stay up.
Stock Tires 55-59 I got 27 MPG at its best drive easy on flat land.
Stock Tires 60-65 - 24 MPG
Stock Tires 70 about 21 MPG
10 Ply Tires Flat
24MPG hwy @ 55-59
21 MPG 60-70
City Mostly 15-16 depending on traffic and how many full throttle starts.
Tires killed my mileage.
I feel like the engine idles and runs more sluggish in 90+F weather using 87 Octane. So I run 89-93 all summer/ 1MPG better and it really feels like much more power, sounds and runs SO much better!
Winter mostly 87 Octane.
Oh and beach trips, 2 adults, 2 kids, dog, 5.5 bed packed, 400 lbs on the cargo carrier and STILL 21 MPG!

Lifetime avg for my truck is 13.7 L/100km. Last full tank was 13.2 L/100km. 70 Hwy / 30 City. Drive at about 70mph on the why. 18,000 mms on the vehicle.

Hey, I love this thread. It's good to be able to compare mileage figures and see what others are getting with the F-150s. However, I might suggest the following: For those who are getting better than average mileage, say above 18MPG, how about giving specifics on mods you've done to the truck? Everything from canopies to engine upgrades/mods would be helpful. Additionally, any hypermiling techniques you use gives us even more to work with. I realize we don't buy trucks for their mileage, but in this day of high gas prices, every little bit helps.
If it's of use, I'll start with what I've done with my '11 SCREW FX4, just under 30K miles (owned since new), 5.0 and 3.73: Full synthetic (Mobil 1) in the engine, transmission and both differentials (Royal Purple ), K&N replacement filter (not the CAI kit), and a cab-high canopy. Tires filled with nitrogen (lots of debate on how effective that is, but the dealer does it automatically, so WTH) and set at 40psi. Tires are still the factory Scorpions (will go to Michelin LTXs when the wear out).
I'm in eastern NC with mild hills. End result: City driving: now averaging about 18.5MPG. Hwy (keeping it below 65): 20.6. At 70 or more, it drops to 19.0. At 55, it goes to 21.8. That gets me into the EcoBoost range, which is a whole different discussion. I certainly can't complain about that, since it's definitely better than the factory specs. Only things I haven't tried yet is reprogramming or a chip, since it causes warranty issues. FWIW, the only wax jobs it has had were the ones from the carwash. No DIY waxing yet. That'll come in a couple of weeks.
Anyone else done something different? I'm always looking for improvements.
