That is just crazy, i can't believe its illegal to have lights installed on your truck even if they are not on. I should be able to install whatever the hell i want on there, as long as they aren't going to fall off, make it too wide, etc...ridiculous.

ok here is my opion, just fight the fkn ticket and see what happens, becuz i highly dought that lights in your state law should be 20 inches apart, and if you do look at it those outside lights are 20 inches apart, and form what i seen the inside lights can be around 20 in apart so it wouldnt matter either way, that is my opion, but just fight the fkn ticket

Hate to go against the cop bashing (and no, I'm not a cop) but I'm betting you failed the attitude test to be in this situation to begin with. If they were chasing quotas (highly unlikely but IF) they would simply pull someone speeding 5 over and be done, certainly easy enough.

From what YOUR SIDE is and you've posted you're clearly in violation of the statute. If your side is even remotely slanted towards your version (certainly it's not of course) then your're just F'd and probably rightfully so.

As much as I like cop bashing too (which I started) you also have to think that maybe he gave you a break. I'd take that ticket over a points ticket and you should both be happy. I got a ticket for running a stop sign like 2 weeks ago. I could tell he was really trying to be cool, or at least that's how I prefer to see it. He wanted to just give me a seatbelt ticket instead (I think) but he couldn't because I'm not required to wear it. I just gave the ticket to my lawyer, we'll see what happens with it.

Going to court is cheap and worth the effort you have nothing to lose. Unless you make much more in wages than the ticket. I think it looks good for you.

If you go into court and your only basis for fighting the ticket is one section of the law you'll learn that tickets can be amended. Basically, the ticket can be changed to one that "fits."

The 20 inch rule; all you have to do with that is say that the light pairs are 20 inches apart. No evidence was taken in that regard. Also, consider... you have 4 lights. From left to right count them as 1, 2, 3, 4. Your problem is with lights 2 and 3. instead say the light "pairs" are 1 and 3, and lights 2 and 4.

Good luck. If you go to court remember; don't be a ***.

Come on man, All I did was ask if any one thought I could fight this ticket. I did not have an attitude whatsoever. I was sitting at a stop light when the officer pulled me over, and they were pulling people over all night. I am sure he has seen my truck a hundred times. I live in a very small town in which the police do this a few nights before the end of the month. The police in Grove City do not have a good track record. They have been fined on numerous occasions for harassing businesses. I have been pulled over by Grove City police 3 times in the past two years just for driving after 2 am. I frequently DD for my friends, only to be pulled over by these same police. Of course I pass each breathalyzer test with .000 BAC, but that is beside the point.

And my argument is that I am not in violation of the statute he cited me for (title 67 pa code 175.66(l)(5)). If you took the time to read the statute you would see that is the case. So next time please refrain from lecturing me on my attitude and from telling me that I am "F'ed and probably rightfully so," because it just makes it apparent that you are too lazy to read the earlier posts.

If he had given me a break, it would have been in the form of a warning because it was pretty apparent that I was not purposely or knowingly trying to break the law. He couldnt give me a points ticket because I was not even moving, I was stopped at a stop light.

In my experience with police I have only had one somewhat pleasant experience and that with a west virginia sheriff who pulled me over for speeding. He let me off with a warning that stated there are deer in these parts so you might want to slow down. Other than him all the police I have encountered were either rude, standoffish, or they act like a really nice guy and then come back and hand you a massive fine with points added to your license. Sorry but that has been my experience. On a side note I am extremely respect to officers just because I know they have the power to essentially cite me for whatever they want. So I address them as sir or officer at all times, turn my music off, and keep my hands on the steering wheel unless asked to do otherwise.

I agree and thanks for the advice. I figured I might as well try to fight it. I have never heard of tickets being amended in court, that sounds kind of sketchy. I had thought of saying they are paired so they are both 20 inches apart but that sounds like a lie because its pretty obvious which ones are paired because of the size differences. It might be worth a shot though if they try to amend the ticket in court.

Definitely will not be an *** in court.

I was trying to give a positive spin for you, but trust me I feel the same way you do. I didn't think they could amend a ticket. Either you're guilty or you're not. He should have written the correct ticket at the time.

If he wrote the wrong ticket, you can fight it easily. I have had two occasions where I was stopped for supposedly "failing to yield" and "Careless Prohibited Driving". On the first ticket the cop wrote a different street name on the ticket (that was over 5 miles away.) than what he was telling the judge. "Sir, I did not fail to yield at the given stop sign on the ticket" "Are you calling my officer a liar?" "If you would like to put it that way sir then yes, If you will look at the ticket then you will see I was nowhere near where the officer claims I was" "Ok then we will throw this one out" Second one the officer failed to write how fast he claimed I was going on the ticket, so the judge threw that one out as well.
