Obnoxious Cops
okay so what do you guys think of my case.
The Officer cited me for having too many lights. Which I do not. One set of aux one set of fogs. However I am in violation of the code stating they must be 20 inches apart, but this is not what I was cited for.
My basis for this is in title 67 PA code 175.66 pertaining to auxiliary lighting and fog lamps there is not definition of what differentiates fog lamps from auxiliary lighting.
Is this a valid argument?!?! I posted the section of title 67 earlier in the thread if you didnt catch it.

Not saying I agree with the cop by any means but nobody on here thus far unless one of the above is QUALIFIED to answer your question.
Well, I think your arguement is completely legit. If I wrote a ticket like that, It would get thrown out because of my screw up for failing to write the proper description on the code. I wouldn't bring up the fact of the distance between the two when you go to court. If you do, you are actually admitting that you failed to comply with the actual code. I would only bring up the fact that you have 2 fog lamps and 2 auxillary lamps. Therefore you are competely within the state regulation on how many lights you can add to the front of your vehicle. So, good luck on that topic.
As for what I recommend you do to prevent this from happening again.
1. You could move the lights out further so you are fully within the code.
2. Buy a set of covers for the auxillary driving lamps and if you get stopped for the distance between the two, then claim they are for offroad use only and that is why they are covered.

My solution to this problem is to mount the lights behind an aftermarket grill that I have had lying around for a while, and I guess I will take the metal bars off my brush guard that cover my head lights, at least for now.
Thanks for you advice 2010WHTFX2. I will not admit to the 20 inches rule but I am sure the police officer will bring it up.
