Default Grip about $ for mods

As the title says. Some its parents(like me, mainly mom). And some its wives, girlfriends and what not. And for some, i wouldnt think youd have trouble, but for the women folk on here it would be men. How do you guys talk the ones who've got a grip on your piggy bank into letting you mod your truck? I have been slowly "hinting" of doing stuff to my truck and mom flips **** and dad kinda helps me a bit. Had to explain to mom my plans for bedlining the rocker panels. She's convinced im going to destroy my truck, when ive been reading everything about it i could for the last 6 months. Lets hear it.

Maybe your mom knows a little about saving money for the important things. Listen to her.

I save money. But i also bust my *** to make that money. And i busted my *** working 80 hour weeks to pay for my truck last summer and im doing the same this summer. Gonna make enough for a years worth of insurance.2 grand for repairs if needed, and then about a grand for reserve. The rest i believe should be mine to make the truck i worked hard for and love to death better. I dont get stupid with it. I havent bought anything for it yet like ive wanted because i havent saved up enough yet. I just wanna hear how you guys (and gals) get an upperhand in persuasion. Alot of stuff i want to do actually improves safety and fuel mileage. So thats my biggest point in the arguement.

Can I ask how old you are? Are you still in school? Going to college? Work full time?

And what are your plans for the truck?

I'm trying to see it from what my point of view would be, if you were my kid.

the best thing to do is sell the f150 and get a Geo metro if you cant afford the gas personally i get 10mpg if im lucky but i can afford to spend 70 bucks to fill it up every time. just plan ahead do you want to spend 2000 bucks on a truck that's going to cost to much to run? if your going to collage it cost major$$$$ i know i'm doing that right now but i planned ahead and saved mom knows best

what do you have planned for the truck?

To the OP, it's all about compromise. You just need to sit down with your parents and let them know that for every (insert dollar amount here) of money that you put aside for what they want you to pay for you should be able to have a certain amount that you can blow any way you want to. Be an adult about it, that's what they really want.

Or, maybe they want you to save a crapload of money so you will move out of their house someday...maybe that's what they really want.

Well as a parent I can tell you I bought a nice safe truck for my kid to drive. Cant say here what I bought ( I would be ashamed..). But she pays for gas to get to school for movies etc. When it is time to work yes as a parent I push her to get the job done and goes even when she would prefer not to. The money earned belongs to Her but I stand fast if your going to waste your money in my opinion then I am not going to provide the things I have provided for, the truck ,insurance, maintanance etc. So you have a tough nut to crack even with me I dont see where doing anything to the rocker panels makes the truck, 1 any safer. 2 Gets better mileage. So if your going to argure the things I want make it safer you have to show how it does that. If it gets better mileage you have to show how it does that. As the Dad as long as I keep the MOM happy I can do what makes me happy.. As the kid your jobs to do what you can, not get caught, and pay the price when you do. These are called lifes lessons and sometimes we learn them very hard. Your always going to be your mothers little boy even when you turn 50.
