I can understand not letting you buy power mods, but a bedliner? Come on...

Sometimes you have to put in their terms, like with my wife. She doesn't understand why I want to update or mod my truck, it seems great just the way it is. Well I feel the same way about the house, I think it is great just the way it is but she goes and buy little thing here and there to personalize it her way, it is what she likes. Of course this might not work as I don't know your mom and it might offend her talking to her about her money. I know as a person in your position you don't understand fully what you parents point is but I am sure they have your best interests at heart. I know my 13 year old gets madder then hell at me sometimes, but he will learn one day what I was teaching him.

I just happen to own my own automotive business. Which happens to include any mods I want. So my truck gets whatever I want. My wife doesn't even know or notice them half the time. But in each situation it's all about communication. So just keep working at it.

Tell her the bedliner will protect the bed and keep the resale value up. Then when you put the 6" lift and 35" tires you tell her its so you can see the accidents ahead.

First of all, clear communication is key. Take care of your important stuff first and foremost and then see.

Personally I take a set amount from my biweekly check and have it auto-deposited into a seperate bank account I have for mods. Whatever I have in there, I can blow. If I don't have enough for something, I wait until I do.

That way, it never compromises our day to day finances nor our short, medium and long term goal finances.

And it's amazing to me, how few people actually know what a budget is, much less wisely uses one. lol

Default A plan that worked for me

Im 25... never had anything given to me in life besides a roof over my head and food in my stomach until i graduated college... so i am blessed compared to most. However, i never had a car of my own. My Sophomore year i had saved enough money to buy a Land Rover and did... loved the car but could never mod because all my money was going to bills/insurance/gas/paying student bills.

Now, i am fortunate to have graduated driving a plan jane car and have been working for about 3 years now. I ended up buying a new 2010 FX4 last October and now have money of my own to buy mods etc

My advice... drive what you have and be proud, do some small things here or there, but one day you will have the money to do what you please, so go nuts then.

Like where your heads at though
