Default Forscan? to read actual oil pressure?

Can i see what the oil pressure is via a scan tool, Forscan etc. without needing to hook up an actual oil pressure gauge?

yes, you can. I just did it the other night when I got the OBD2 connector and setup some of the stuff I wanted on my truck.

it’s under the “Read PID data” button.

There is no PID for actual oil pressure, it is oil pressure yes/no. It's just a pressure switch yes/no.

Correct, hence my previous answer. The vehicle is not equipped with a pressure sensor that reads actual pressure.

How would you like the output?

it’s part of the read PID data in the PCM module.

and it’s very much live.

remember you're apparently comparing a 2020 to a 2012, things change over time

ANd I would still expect Forscan to be able to read it as PSI. Hell, my old OBDII reader was able to read actual pressures on my old 2003.

if I think about it I'll check my 2012 tonight (have an X4 and Forscan) but can't say it's high on my priority list so we'll see

how does a obdII code reader read actual oil pressures?

and if it can,, how does it read them on vehicles that only come equipped with a basic oil pressure switch?

please elaborate
