trailer module recall
I was told the same for my 2021.
Had my update done by a mobile tech from the dealer about a week ago, after the dealer confirmed by VIN that the OTA had not worked. Thought everything was good, the next day went and picked up my camper to go out of town a couple days, and the brake gain was at 0, and would not adjust up. The manual squeeze switches did not apply the brakes either. Now, to be fair, the brake controller did not come installed on my truck, I ordered the kit from Infotainment.com and installed it (factory switch and module). I used their included programmer and the trailer brakes did work prior to the mobile tech doing the recall. So, mobile tech is coming back out this week to see what he can do if anything, and Infotainment is also in the loop, supposedly sending me a tablet to connect with their tech support giving me instructions via phone.
I don't care either way who fixes it, just want to get them working again. I did try using the programmer twice before I left to reprogram, but no luck, twice. It is not a big camper, approx 4k lbs, and I only had to pull it about an hour, so I made sure to keep plenty of distance from other vehicles, and my powerstop brakes did a great job stopping me when I needed to. Wasn't an ideal situation, but I had no issues.

I have been dealing with Ford on this module failure. My 2026 F-150 module failed, locked up my trailer brakes, (uncommanded stop) and damaged my bumper. I took the truck to Ford, they filed a claim with upper echelon, and now say they "do not yet" have a software fix for the braking issue. So . . . I have a truck I bought to tow my light duty trailers with that I cannot use. If I hook up a trailer, the trailer brakes lock up.

I temporary have an idiot light in the cab wired to the trailer connector. Any time the brakes are pressed I can see the light glow. Sunday hooked up everything. Shows trailer connected, gain switch works. Info screen has the trailer selected. Start driving an a few miles later trailer disconnected pops up on the instrument panel screen. touch the brakes and the idiot bulb lights up. Hit Ok and message disappears a few more miles message comes back hit Ok and touch the brakes idiot light comes on. rest of trip no messages - return no messages and light comes on when I touch the brakes.
never had an issue until end of 2025. I wonder if Ford did an OTA update and messed up the software for the trailer brake module
I have a simple solution for Ford. If someone goes on their information screen and selects an active trailer - assume a trailer is attached
years ago when you would add an aftermarket brake module it didn't know if a trailer was attached - it always sent power the the trailer plug when the brakes are applied

I hope not, but I think you might have a valid point. I had this trailer brake/light recall done on my 2021 the first year I had the truck after waiting for the NHTSA to finally issue a recall. They were failing and I had to shut the truck down and start it up 10 minutes later to get things working again. After the recall reprogramming things were flawless up until I put the camper in storage last October. I was also told the new recall fix was flawed. My dealer had my truck for 5 days a couple of weeks ago for the black screen rear view camera recall. They had to replace the GWM. Truck is well out of warranty but the dealer didn’t charge me a dime. Was told then that they would notify me when the new untainted trailer fix would be available. Very confusing considering lots of folks are getting their recall done either OTA or by the dealer. I’m worried about how things are going to work out when I pick the camper up next week.

A mobile Ford tech was at my office fixing another person's vehicle. I asked about the trailer module update and his reply. I don't think it's a software issue likely the trailer module will need replaced. Then the module will be on back order for 6 to 12 months once a recall is issued.
