Default Is Powerboost worth it?

Hello

I am looking purchasing my first truck.

I have been focusing on 2021/2022 lariat model with 2.7L Ecoboost

However one of the local dealerships over here has Powerboost in the roughly same price point as the ecoboost.

My driving will be mostly city with very occasional towing my very light fifh wheel trailer (5000 lbs).

I live in Vancouver, BC so would like to know how is the efficiency is for the mostly cold months.

We only have like 3-4months of summer. And then it gets cold enough for snow

Thank you. I am really excited to get my first f150 But obviously want to make the correct decision.

The powerboost is a power first engine. There are minimal gains for fuel economy. It will pull a house down the street no problem though. For what you need, a 2.7 is probably the better option.

Depends if you want the 7.2kW generator.. that was the reason why I bought the PowerBoost.

Powerboost would be alot better around the city for mileage, about even on the highway

I don’t post often but this one I can with experience.
I’ve had 2 2.7 trucks. I think the 2.7 is the best engine Ford makes. During the summer I got about 22 MPG with plenty of power to pull a 5000 pound camper.
I now have an Powerboost KR. It’s smoother than the 2.7 because of the changes made to the 2024 hybrid package. I like the 3.5 Powerboost but will it ever get 22 MPH? I love the power. It WILL pull your camper better than the 2.7 no question. I would advise drive both don’t take anyone’s advice. See which one you like like but don’t forget the added complexity of the Powerboost.

lol cold right!!! You're insane if you think -5 is cold and thats maybe 12 days out of sept to april.

You got nothing to worry about with weather orher than the 4 months of rain.

If you do a lot of city driving, that's where powerboost (or hybrid) shines.

This is always my answer as well.

If you want/need the pro power on-board go Powerboost. If you don't care, get one of the other engines. Save the cost. Save the complexity. I would bet a 2.7T driven conservatively will get very close real world MPG to the Powerboost.

How long are your city trips? I find that <10 minute trips with the powerboost aren’t as efficient as rated city mileage because recharging the high voltage (HV) battery occurs more during the first 5-10 minutes of a drive. For 20-30 minute drives though, I tend to see more of that rated mileage.

That being said, I’d go with a powerboost primarily for the pro power onboard, or sheer power (hence the name) of the engine. It’s a torque monster when the HV battery is filled and on tap.

My powerboost milage is typically 8-9 L/100 KM a few times been under 8 when driving less than 90Km/Hr

The big plus is the Pro power option to me I used it several times post storms to run the house
