That’s what I was thinking too. Surely not everyone who left a deposit is going to take the truck.

I have a 2020 F150 SuperCrew now but I’m a little disappointed in the new 10 speed transmission. It really seems to hunt for gears a lot when driving around town and has clunked pretty good several times trying to figure out what gear to use. From what I’ve read the electric truck won’t have those issues and they are supposed to be really quiet and smooth. Not having to mess with the stupid auto start/stop would be nice too. That “feature” is literally useless in the big city especially with the TX heat.

Incorrect.

There is no truck sent to a lot due to a reservation.

A reservation is not an order and a reservation does not result in a truck being shipped to your dealer.

You can disable the autostop completely for somewhere between $100 and $0 depending on the method you choose

You mean where the DRLs are? I tend to agree. I will give it more time, as I have often been in threads where any change in the F-150 design is met with detractors, like the grill change in the 2018 MY and the red/brown on the Sport interior for '21, and in each case I have said that in time people will embrace it once you get over the initial change shock, and even like it. In most all cases, people that hated those things eventually ended up with the truck anyway, and come to like the changes.

But those DRLs have even me a bit stumped. They feel very out of place in what is otherwise an extremely clean F-150. But I also don't like the giant PLATINUM bar on the tailgate of those trucks, so maybe it's just anything that seems out of place and "Look at Me!" that just doesn't do it for me. Time will tell. But for now, yeah, if they want to differentiate the Lightning I hope they do so in a less bulgy way.

I'm curious to see if those hood & TG lights perform any tricks, like turn signal, hazard, while charging, etc...

I think they look kinda cool, but need to see them in person before I buy in completely.

Default How long will it take for the aftermarket to embrace the new F150 Lightning?

Reason I ask is I read somewhere that the new Lightning “Pro” entry level truck will only be available to the public with the standard range battery. Meaning only fleet customers who buy multiple vehicles will be able to get the extended range battery in the base model “Pro” series truck.

If that turns out to be true I could imagine the aftermarket coming out with a supplemental range booster battery to improve mileage. I’m sure all the cosmetic stuff would follow including grill shell, tires and wheels, level kit, etc.

It would be cool to see an aftermarket grill and maybe headlight kit offered to add the light bar across the front like the higher level trucks will have. Seems like that $7,500 tax credit would pay for a lot of extras.

By the way… Do they just give you credit for the EV tax refund at the dealership or do you have to apply for it and reimburse yourself? This is all new to me.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

-Ron

I think it will be embraced, but in time. Nice thing about Ford's approach is that a majority of the truck is carryover from the ICE, in terms of things you would modify anyway. So floor mats, tonneau covers, all that good stuff should be carry over.

I would expect a year or so of seeing how many Ford gets on the road beyond reservations will determine the aftermarket embracing it.

As to the tax credit, nice thing is it is a credit, you get it regardless of your tax burden. Unlike a deduction, which can only come off your tax burden and may result in you getting much less.

It will come to you with your normal tax refund after you file your 2022 taxes in 2023 (assuming you buy one in February of 2022, you wouldn't see the $7500 until 2023).

Only thing I am not sure of with tax credits, is if you see the $7500 in total if you owe money. Like if you own the IRS $2k, I don't know that they will still send you $7500, then expect you to pay them the $2000 once you get it. The last time I did the $7500 was on a lease and Ford just took it off the vehicle cost up front and I didn't have to mess with taxes.

There are pleeeeenty of websites out there if you do a google search that talk about the $7500 tax credit an EVs, since it isn't a new thing.

I wonder if you'll see trucks with the dealer surcharge like the $10K we saw over MSRP on the Gen2 Raptors when they 1st came out.

I doubt it, at least for reservation holder orders, due to Ford involvement and Ford seemingly wanting/needing to hit price points as part of the EV transition

Buuuut we'll see
