The only way not to be surprised on price when you go to pick it up is to be candid with your dealer when you do go to order it. Get them to put it in writing that they will not add an ADM on top of the price you agree on.
Correct: I "reserved" my place in line as soon as they opened up. I'll see if I can get the dealer to give me in writing they won't do a markup. Thanks.

^ You should be able to get a dealer to confirm this. My local dealer( actually 2 dealers) told me no markup and A/Z plan eligible. They also said likely wont see it until 2023 or 2024.
I reserved mine the night it premiered too. I would prefer a F150-Tremor powerboost ( which is NOT available ) There should be more hybrid options.

The Lightning is interesting to me, I'm looking forward to seeing them tested and in the wild before looking seriously at one. In principal this would be a perfect replacement for my F-150 5.0. I had planned on paying my current F-150 off and buying a Mach-E GT to daily drive, leaving the F-150 to primarily winter driving and trips to Home Depot etc. An electric F-150 would give me the ability to daily and haul when/if necessary which would be great. My biggest potential concern is price. I need to see where the Lightening will come down in the Lariat trim out the door. I've seen estimates that a limited trim Lightening is going to be upward of $90k, so if a Lariat trim Lightening is considerably more than a comparably equipped gas F-150 I'll have to pass.

My guess is it’ll be more, but I think federal electric vehicle incentives could bring the two closer together.

I do think you’re right though, for long term success the electric F-150, needs to be affordable. I think Ford is trying to do that though.

If the electric vehicle incentives bring them close enough, I'd consider that. I would prefer to have one vehicle vs. a gas F-150 and an EV daily. My wife has a medium size SUV that we use for long trips so it would be great to have an affordable Lightening for me to daily.

This has probably been noted before, but IIRC, there is no "line" and your (and my) reservation is nothing but a great way for the dealers to get our contact info. It's in the fine print somewhere. I would guess that it comes down to how quickly the dealer gets your order in, among other things, and then ultimately when they get it scheduled for build.

subbed. I would also need some of those ev incentives but if they are available, I just might pull the trigger on one of these.

If it is anything like the Bronco, it is certainly a line. When it came to Bronco scheduling, Ford selected all my Bronco production exactly by reservation timestamp. In other words, the first X number of reservations were selected in the order the reservation was made and scheduled for production. Now, does this mean that #3 was built before #11, not exactly. What it does mean is that reservation numbers 18+ didn't get a 2021 Bronco, but 1-17 all did.

Looking at production numbers VS reservation holders and how many dealers there are....

~3400 Ford dealers in US and Canada.

More that 160,000 reservations

15,000 produced in the first model year.

That's ~4.5 per dealer. Some will get more some will get less, but on average, unless you're 4th or better on your dealer's list, you're not going to see your Lightning in the first model year.

Distribution will be by dealer volume, so some dealerships will get one, some will get fifteen, and I'd be willing to bet that Ford slams state percentage heavily to California.

Ford sells the most trucks in Texas by a wide margin over CA....almost triple. Next state is CA followed by Florida
