So wait....the dealer is offering you more for your current F150 than you paid for it?

Yup, very likely, there is a carvana thread on the forums with everyone showing either what they paid, or thousands more than they paid years ago, being offered on a straight buy, not even traded. Even my old 2012 is being offered what i paid for it a year ago.

As for the engine, i'm not keen on diesels in particular, but i think the two posts above that i liked are very good points, and would appear to point to the Ecoboost instead of the diesel based on the OP's stated use.

Yup I bought it a few years ago after my 14 had an unfortunate accident (you would be amazed what a runaway airplane tug will do lucky for that dude it hit my truck not an aircraft). It was a quick buy need so I couldn't really wait so I picked this one up. Got it for 26k they are offering me 30500 right now.

I really like 3.5EB. Just towed 6k lbs trailer for 1800 miles effortlessly. If you want to tow it is a great engine choice.

Honestly there isn’t an engine that Ford puts in the F150 currently that I wouldn’t own. And thats saying a lot because I’ve owned 5 GM’s and only 2 Fords. GM doesn’t have a single engine in their halftons that I want currently. Even the 6.2 with its bent pushrods and all its problems, no thanks.

I’d take it over the 2.7 GM has in a heartbeat. Especially since it comes with the 10 speed.

I guess I'd go with the Powerboost to try out new tech between the two options. However, they are really the last two of all the options that I would pick. The Powerboost is high tech and could be costly to repair and the diesel is slow, has a lower tow rating and higher maintenance requirements.

If I were going to pick an F150 to mostly just roll up and down the interstate, I'd probably go with the 5.0. It will likely get better fuel mileage than the EB at constant highway speeds and still have power when you want it. The diesel would be my last choice just for performance reasons.

I for one am not ready to take the powerboost "dive" yet. Call me paranoid or cautious but this is still very new technology and I don't want to be the guinea pig to iron out all the issues that are sure to come IMO. Maybe 2 or 3 years down the road if they still offer it, but even then, only if I need my truck to be a portable generator.

I'm with you. Only picked it between those two options, but would not pick it overall.

$1,000 buys a great portable inverter generator, so that's just not important in my mind. I certainly don't want to have to leave my truck sitting idling to power my house or anything silly like that. Not a good use of fuel or wear on the truck.
