2021 Basic sound system upgrade thread
going forward I installed my kicker hideaway in my 2021 xlt 302a. I used a kicker line out converter and tapped into the door speakers and ran a constant and switched power to it. Took more time than just using the old plug 😂. But it is much louder and hits harder than my 2016 did. My opinion it was soft and the forscan changes weren’t quite spot on for the application. But it does sound much better and louder in my 2021.
I used this converter. It has a remote on power on it. It does make a simple clean install, but the remote on stayed on longer than I liked. I’m sure it wouldn’t cause a problem, but from all the battery draining threads going on with these trucks, I didn’t want to risk it so I just used the speaker lines and ran dedicated power lines instead of the ones it supplies, but it does work as intended. It just keeps power on the amp for a minute or maybe more after shutting off the truck tho.
A little FYI. I installed a LC6i, all doors and tweeters swapped to FOCAL, and a JL 10" sub behind the rear seat. This was a base, 7speaker system with the 12" screen.
1) The tweeters are powered from the head unit on their own. you can cut all 8 (2 per speaker) wires for the doors and the tweeters will still have power and sound.
2) you'll need a remote turn on that goes off of the audio signal not the vehicle power or the start/stop will interfere
3) you do not have to remove the stereo. you can access the wires from the top part of the dash and disconnect the wiring plug there.
