Looks like it could be related to an aftermarket alarm or immobilizer. Also that type of surface corrosion is quite typical being most of the dash structures I see are bare metal without any coatings.

Not worried about the rust. I live in AZ. Sorry, but I was wondering what the device screwed onto the bottom of my dash is and what’s used for.? I’ve never seen this before.

Does the window sticker show anything in the options or additional extras that pertain to security or similar? Or did the dealer try to upsell any such packages or add-ons at the time of sale? If they did, they may have installed the unit and just banked on most customers saying yes to this.

Whatever it is, it is not factory supplied. Some dealers install immobilizers or trackers to help in finding vehicles that need to be repossessed for non-payment of loans.

I would see what it is hooked into... looked like some scotchlocks in the harness. Undo the 2 phillips and see what its connected too.

Research/Google “KARR Security”.

You have an aftermarket alarm tracking device installed on your truck. The dealer used it to secure the truck while it was on their lot but it can also be used to track your truck in case of repossession. You should have been offered the option to purchase into the security program. Personally I’d have them remove it and replace the panel that they put holes in.

Thank you for your replies! Truck has no loan on it, it’s a 2016 xlt with all typical standard factory items. It does have an auto start but again it’s a factor product and not a aftermarket. I’ve owned this truck from the beginning and now noticing this gadget. I’ve plugged my truck in to test for codes and never noticed it then. Just seems odd as I’ve had many F150s before
