Default Updates with no warning

Yesterday when I started up my Plat the entire center stack was blank (Dark). Nothing worked, no radio, nav, climate, phone, or steering wheel controls on the right side - nothing. I shut it down and did a restart, again nothing. I headed for the dealer as they are not far away. About one minute into the drive the Ford logo that shows during startup flashed on the screen and then it went blank again . About 3 miles down the road I got a message on the screen something to the effect - "SYNC is performing periodic maintenance and updates, please stand by." Soooo I did. After about 2 or 3 minutes the system booted and worked fine. It did this without any warning or message prior to the upgrade. No idea what was done. Has anyone else experienced this? A little heads up prior to shutting down half of my truck would have been nice. It would also be nice to know what was done.

My wife's Ford Edge did the same thing. Kinda freaks you out for a few seconds until it works again.

My wife and I were on vacation in her 2013 Edge Limited last year. We had a great time cruising the beach with the vista roof open and enjoying ourselves away from work. Programmed in the local post office in the gps so she could mail some postcards to family. Came back out to officially start the long journey home and started it up to what you are describing OP. Talk about being freaked the F out! LoL

Glad it lined itself out after the update.

This is nothing to worry about. It's just Sync rebooting. My Explorer did this occasionally. Nothing is wrong with your truck.

As it was said above nothing is wrong with your truck. But as you said its scary the first time you see it and some sort of warning should be given. I had the reboot happen to me 2hours after buy my truck. I was so pissed, thought that my brand new truck was broken already after hitting damn near every button on the dash and killing and starting the truck 2-3 times it rebooted and all has been good!

You would think just like your computer at home. It would give you a message
" update ready would you like to download yes or no ". I guess that would be to much to ask lol

It's on page 421 of your owners manual... Check it out, you can disable it if you like.

That's my point. No harm done and the update works fine, what ever it was. That fact that there was no warning or notice that it was about to happen is what I did not like.

Hey everyone,

I just want to jump in and confirm that "Performing Scheduled Maintenance" means your system is rebooting. This does not perform any kind of update to your system. Let me know if you have any questions.

Industrial automation such as this system clearly supports should at least show status as to why to the end user =)
