Updates with no warning
This is happening on mine as well. I took it into the dealer last week, they said there was an update (which they installed). I was surprised because by "research" had indicated that I was running the latest software. I still have trouble with the NAV system and I may take it back in. I have found that I my unit bogs down if/when I have two small USB thumbnail plugged in. My understanding was that Sync could handle 15,00 songs. I decreased the amount over the two thumb drives to about 12,000 files.
The MFT display just seams sluggish when starting the vehicle. It tried to update yesterday morning - even though the dealership had done so last Friday. I may take it back in. Just hate to be without my trucki. :-(

Yesterday when I started up my Plat the entire center stack was blank (Dark). Nothing worked, no radio, nav, climate, phone, or steering wheel controls on the right side - nothing.
I shut it down and did a restart, again nothing.
I headed for the dealer as they are not far away. About one minute into the drive the Ford logo that shows during startup flashed on the screen and then it went blank again
. About 3 miles down the road I got a message on the screen something to the effect - "SYNC is performing periodic maintenance and updates, please stand by." Soooo I did. After about 2 or 3 minutes the system booted and worked fine. It did this without any warning or message prior to the upgrade. No idea what was done. Has anyone else experienced this? A little heads up prior to shutting down half of my truck would have been nice. It would also be nice to know what was done.

Had that system maintenance message this afternoon. Had just started the truck and put it into reverse to back out of a space in a busy parking lot. Glanced down at the screen to see what was back there, and it was blank. Very disconcerting. Didn't get the message on it until I backed out of the spot and headed for the exit. Then it came back up and was okay.
Again, very disconcerting.

Its a computer....pretty sure most of us here have to reboot our computer now and then to correct minor glitches....that is what the SYNC system is doing.
The updating process is done wirelessly. It's very possible that it could be hacked.
As a person who knows quite a bit about the vulnerability of this type of software, I do worry when I see updates. I cringe, and imagine the potential repercussions every time.
I don't know how educated some of you are, as far as technology goes, but there's no real barrier between your console computer functions, and the functions controlling other vital functions in your vehicle (such as steering, brakes, throttle, etc.)

Yea the only wireless is the bluetooth and you are not doing updates that way. I leave the bluetooth turned off at all times. I don't use it.
And if I bring the truck to the dealer. I tell them Do Not perform any updates on anything. I don't want them.

My Lariat ( had 1 month) just did this again - black screen, delay, performing scheduled maintenance, finally come on - for the umpteenth time. Been in for service once, going back Tuesday. This is annoying. Happens about once a day or more. Did it twice so far today.
Yes that definitely needs to be looked at!
I was the OP on this when my Platinum did this. It was 2 months old at the time. Since then I have over 9000 miles on the truck in 6 months I have owned it. It has never occurred again.
