I have this kit from Rough Country. Comes with hard plastic shims that between shackle and mounts that eliminates any rattling. Worst part was removing the grommets the OEM thingys slide through. Wound up taking a long prybar, 3'-4', stuck one end thru the grommet and used the OEM thigy as a fulcrum. They popped right out, but destroys them. https://www.roughcountry.com/ford-to...150-4wd-739991
this was the image I saw that got me interested....
Find a way to keep those shackles from unthreading themselves and falling off, especially on washboard roads.
I found TWO shackles on the rough 50mile road near Escalante UT. And the threaded pins were only 20 ft away from the shackles.
Just tighten more than handtight, mine aren't going anywhere. I've rigged for equipment hauling and transport for a long time, never lost any hardware yet except to thieves.
Good reminder though.

What I really want are 1 1/4" or 2" hitch receivers that replace the factory tow hooks, instead of the shackle. I know there was a company out there that made a couple prototypes for people years ago, but does anyone have a lead on something like that?

Hmm, no link or anything, but that sounds interesting.
Doesn't sound like the guy that did them still works at that company though, and they never went into production. I'm emailing the company now to see if I get a response, anyway.

Oh, now those I've seen before. I thought meant to replace both OEM hooks. I've known one or two people that had that setup, but I think they made them themselves. Not a new idea at all, seems like they'd be out there somewhere.
