Sync 3 fixed issues with update
I know there is a ton of info on this, just thought I'd share my experience hoping it may help someone else.
I had the sync 3 issues with my 2020 Lariat, It was set up to automatically update over wifi. and was showing the 22251 build. Issues I was having were....It kept asking to turn on automatic updates, screen blacked out occasionally, rear camera stayed on...multiple issues.
After a lot of reading on forums, doing the master reset with no luck, and talking to dealerships (not much help there lol) I went on the ford support site, entered my vin, downloaded the latest update for my sync (Build 23088) moved the files to a usb as per their instructions, then installed on the truck.
It worked. I'm now not having any issues with my sync.
I'm sure some do have hardware issues but I think the wifi / automatic updates cause issues due to not always completely installing properly. I now keep my automatic updates off and will just use a usb to update as needed.

Thank you for this. I started having this problem on my 2019 XLT a couple of months ago but only this week began googling it. Glad to find out I was not alone.
Quick question - I've tried a number of times to check for an OTA software update and every time it told me my software was up to date. Sync says I'm on Build 22251 but this morning I checked the website and it says I should download Build 23088. Any idea why the OTA update hasn't caught this? I'll try a USB installation this weekend and hopefully that'll fix the problem.

Some of the other threads are locked and I just wanted to let those interested know that I did in fact get my sync issues 100% resolved with this update. After searching and reading all the other posts on this I found most pointed to the "jailbreak" option as the fix.
I have the USB ready to go and will attempt the upgrade this weekend.
mrjimmy very glad to hear the update worked for you. I just downloaded it this morning and hope to install it later today. I had been following the “Sync memory 3 issue” thread when my 2019 F150 started having issues and the self fixes the guys were talking about there were over my head not to mention I simply didn’t have the time to even try to deal with it. Once I read Ford was supposed to issue an update I figured I’d just wait. So now that it’s out I’ll install it and hope I get the same results you did. Thanks for the info !

"Did you do the jailbreak option or just the upgrade to Build 23088? I read up on the jailbreak in that closed thread and that's a bridge too far for me if I can avoid it.

I didn't want to cross that bridge either

FYI when doing the update, and the USB is in your truck, make sure to get to the very end, when it tells you it's complete before removing the usb and shutting off truck. Mine while updating had a pop up that made me think it might have been done, I waited and it continued to update...almost like it's 2 separate updates being installed.
