Sync 3 fixed issues with update
I do it while driving. Just updated to the newest version Ford pushed out, no issues, works fine. After the last dumpsterfire I wasn't going to but Sync started acting up again about a week ago. Mostly the same issues as before, even though I had reformatted and reinstalled an older version.
Remember to disable the auto shut off if you are going to let the truck sit in the driveway. I've forgotten a couple of times.

I thought I remembered my Sync shutting down during the last update I did but this time it was fully functional except for a brief reboot about 30 minutes in.
My 2020 Lariat is having same issue that you described. In addition to the symptoms you mention, I've also had the phone ring (with a blacked-out LCD screen), continuously and without stopping while driving on the highway when there isn't a cell phone in or anywhere near the truck. Talk about spooks!
I will try your suggested solution. In the meantime, I had a frustrating and negative experience with the Ford dealer (two of them, actually, and as you say, lol). They are incredibly unhelpful. By giving short-shrift to complaints about flaky electronics (it's always software issues), these dealers are driving customers into the arms of Toyota. My eldest son has a 2021 Tundra and his experiences with Toyota dealers have been positive -- Toyota dealers and the company behind them seem to follow the directive "take care of the customer" first. Ford doesn't take responsibility for problems with their flaky software and dealers are unhelpful. I was given the general Ford Customer Assistance number 800-392-3673 without so much as a "good luck". They don't care.

Same thing on my 2020 Lariat. Problem began immediately after a service visit at a Ford dealer in late July 2023. The dealer claims they didn't do anything to cause the problem. Hah! When I picked-up the truck all my radio presets were gone, and the problems you describe began. I'm still dealing with it, and Ford (and their dealers) are of no help.
