Well, finally got mine replaced. This spring when I took it in, the service advisor dropped the ball and failed to communicate or follow up. Apparently when I took it in they verified the issue and ordered the cluster, but did a gauge sweep reset in the meatime and let me take the truck, they never followed up when the cluster arrived and I got a call last week from another srevice advisor to schedule to come in because the parts manager asked about what was going on with this box in his warehouse that's been sitting there for half a year. So I took it in (they said they needed it all day...), 4pm rolls around and they say there is a problem, the miles set on the cluster were from spring and they have to send it out to get it set to the miles that are on it today... They gave me a loaner (fiesta) and 4 days later I got the vehicle back. What a pain...
I can't believe they are still storing the mileage on the clusters, and that they don't allow the service departments the ability to program that, heck even junkyards have that tool, I see all the time clusters on ebay with a note that for $20 more they will set the mileage.

Are the dealers successfully programming the miles and engine hours into the new clusters?

There's a thread around with XLT owners swapping in Lariat clusters but having to have have the mileage and engine hours done via third party because most dealers are saying they don't have the ability to do so.

If they are programming it, I was wondering how they can do it for these warranty replacements but not the Lariat version upgrade?

The dealer does NOT have the ability to program the mileage in the new cluster nor can they change mileage on an existing cluster. That is why they record the current mileage when a new cluster is ordered. The new cluster comes with the mileage already programmed.

When the dealer replaced the instrument cluster on my 2015 XLT due to the speedometer needle sticking, they were real ******. The recorded the mileage, wouldn't allow me to drive the vehicle and wouldn't provide a loaner vehicle. Took 5 working days for the new cluster to arrive.

The dealer does not have the tool to do it. They order it with the miles programmed or send it out to be programmed, I got the impression it was a third party service company that does the programming. At least the dealership I went to gave me a loaner since they botched up so badly.
It's really frustrating since this is something that if they had the tool would be in and out in an hour. But at least it's fixed now (crosses fingers).

Unless it glitches permanently i'd leave well enough alone.
Digitalwiz - Any re-occurence?

I too just had this happen at 8500 miles and like you and others, it self corrected after about 5-10 Key-Offs (which it would self-correct by about about 5-15 mphs until it was back down to zero at Key-off).

I'm tempted (like you decided) to leave it alone for the same reasons.

Its not software, that is a physical dial with gears. Go get it replaced. I had mine replaced at the time of the original post. Never had a problem since.

Agreed !!

This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware problem

Our fleet of 2015 F150s have had several instrument cluster (IC) failures and have had to have the IC replaced. Waiting to have the IC replaced until the vehicle is out of the 36/36 bumper to bumper warranty is a mistake and will only lead to the owner being responsible for the repair cost.

This just happened to me, so I need to call my dealer to get it fixed. I'm not walking out without a loaner if it's gonna take 5 days to do. Not for their issue.

Just happened to me too except it didn't get stuck. I was driving down the road at 70kph and the speedo was at 20kph. I slowed to 50 and the speedo was just above 0. I sped up to 90 and the speedo went up to 40... So it was consistently low by about 50kph. I quoted the TSB posted in this thread and the dealer has ordered parts and is expecting them in about 5 days. They said I could have it back same-day.

Just to follow up to my own post. I got my truck back today. When I took it in to have them decide it needed the TSB work done, they recorded the mileage and ordered parts. Parts came in about 5 days later, I booked the appointment for today and they had the truck for about 90 minutes before texting me to say it was done. When I dropped it off, the truck had 55253km. When I picked it up at lunch today, it had 54818 (which is the mileage it had on the 12th when I took it in). The service rep told me they call in the mileage and it is programmed before it is shipped to them and they have to ship the old one back as a core.

So looks like I got an extra 453km of warranty coverage. The paperwork says labor was .5hr.
