I was told they needed the truck to get some electronic number from it. Not sure where the mileage is stored. Could be the cluster or another module. They may have to download info from it and reprogram the new one. I did loose engine hours information and MPG info when replaced. I do not know if that is common or if the dealer messed up. They DO NOT need to see the problem, there is a TSB and should replace it as Ford will ship them a new cluster with just your complaint.

I'm pretty sure it was the mileage they needed. I also lost all that other stuff as well. No big deal, as long as it fixed the issue. Which it appears to do.

Hmmm, I have a delima...Although I have two vehicles, I live almost an hour away from work [dealership I am using is literally down the road from my work]. If they order the cluster with the current mileage, they basically would have to keep the truck until the new cluster came in (with the ordered mileage) to keep it consistent.

That doesn't seem right. Surely they can program it at the dealer?!?

I might try the service advisor again tomorrow, but he was pretty clear on them needing to see the issue. I really don't see them performing all the TSB's a customer asks them to just because your vehicle falls in the "build dates". Afterall, every TSB does say "SOME vehicles built before X...".

I could still try to be pushy I guess. I bought a '15 again because of discounts/post divorce tight budget. '16 just wasn't in the cards, unless I was willing to wait, and I do NOT like having only one vehicle, especially with its age/milage, so I bought now. Luckily its a pretty late build, but is still subject to a few TSBs. This one is #2 that has occurred of I think 3 that applies to my truck.

It could be to make sure they order the right cluster. I took my truck in they found the issue before TSB. Order a cluster. Made an appointment, dropped it off in the morning. They called at about noon and said they had bad news. Wrong cluster ordered. Delivered my truck to me and we started all over and until it got replaced. It took me a little over 3 weeks for the whole ordeal.

The only thing you can't really reset on that cluster is the mileage.

Well, I was hoping it was a fluke and with "exercise" it wouldn't get stuck again, but that isn't the case. It happened again today. Although I don't like them needlessly tearing apart the truck, I am going to take it back to them Monday whether its doing it then or not. Snapped a pic on my phone, so that better be good enough. It ended up getting stuck at 60mph when I came to a stop. As I accelerated again, it drove the needle to 110mph. That is where it currently is sitting. I'm sure it will zero out by Monday, but I did get a pic.

Oh well....Looks like I will be getting the second TSB applicable to my truck taken care of.

(Yes, STILL love my truck! Just put on some OEM mudflaps, and new take off OEM step bars today.)

New cluster on order.

I called my advisor this morning, let him know I was coming by, and to save us all some time offered up the TSB #. Turns out just as I was pulling into the service bay he was going to call me and tell me I didn't even have to bring it in. After talking to the mechanic, I guess it was good enough for him (my word that it was happening) and he didn't really need to even see it.

Well, I was already there, so Service Advisor got my mileage and saw my stuck needle. Called the mechanic over, he glanced at it, shook his head (in agreement), and told me that when I brought it back in to bring both sets of keys as he had to reprogram it.

Total time in the shop: about 2 minutes

Default Same thing just happened to mine.

Same thing just happened to my speedometer. 12000 miles on truck. Is this going to be a common problem?

Considering the fact that Ford has issued an TSB on this issue with a production date that could be affected, I would say the chances of seeing this issue are fairly high.

TSB 15-0193

Effective Dec 16 2015 - 2015 F-150 - Analog Speedometer Needle Sticking And/Or Incorrect Speed Indication - Built On Or Before 8/31/2015

FORD: 2015 F-150

ISSUE: Some 2015 F-150 vehicles built on or before 8/31/2015 may exhibit an analog speedometer needle that sticks and/or indicates a vehicle speed while the vehicle is in park.

Actually, the mileage is stored in the PCM. Why they need to get it before the cluster is replace is beyond me. They get your mileage today, you drive it for a week....their mileage reading is now off. The only thing I can think of is they need it to place on the part order. And you could give that to them over the phone.
