Software updates?
I tired doing the update on my 2017 using the wifi in the driveway, key on, engine off. After about 10 minutes I got tired of waiting so turned off the key and went in. The next morning I found that it had completed, even without the key being on. I did some digging and found somewhere on the Ford site that once connected to wifi and downloading an update it will continue up to 30 minutes after the key is turned off.
I also tried via wifi updating to no avail an wound up using a large external hard drive. Now that I've u[dated to 3.0, I wish they would do an update to fix all the crap that 3.0 ruined. Talk about more pop up screens and wifi this or that. I turned off wifi and auto updates and still get pop ups every time I start up. Geez I thought IOS was bad, Ford needs to get this crap lined out.

I downloaded this evening on a thumb drive. All looked good. Put the thumb drive in my truck and went on an hour drive. Nothing happened. Tried it again on the way home. Zip, nada, nothing. I have the autoinstal.lst and DONTINDX.MSA files, plus the Sync directory full of tar.gz files. Any idea what might be the issue?

It’s my company vehicle purchased through something called LeasePlan. It comes with a service booklet that shows when all the services are due. It goes in every 5000 miles. Pretty cool. I dont have to pay for anything for as long as I own it. I get a new one about every 100,000- 120,000 miles, which for me is about every 3 years.
This shouldn’t be that difficult. This appears to be a design flaw in the Ford system. If they advertise automatic updates, you shouldn’t have to go get a thumb drive (which military people aren’t even allowed to use on government computers because of hacking potential) and download files from a computer. What is this, 2005?
- I downloaded the .zip file to my computer.
- Unzipped the contents to the top level directory of a thumb drive.
- Plugged the thumb drive into a socket in my truck, with the truck off.
- Started up the truck and waited couple mins, doing nothing.
- The top of the display then showed that an update was occurring.
- I then left the truck running for about 30 mins.
- When I returned there was a message on screen saying that the update was complete.
- I then shut down the truck for 5 mins.
- When I started it back up again. The updates took. Most obvious change: Heated Steering wheel button is now on the home screen(!).
- I then had to go back on my laptop, with the thumb drive and tell the Ford website that the update was successful.
This involved uploading a file, that was generated by my truck during the update procedure.
