There is no 5,000 mile service. If the dealer is pushing service on you, read your manual. Prior to 100,000 miles, there are only oil changes tire rotations, and air filter changes.

Updating the software might be done by the dealer if you have a good relationship, but they may charge you for it.

Meaning plugging your phone into the USB port I assume and downloading from the phone?

Yes, the 5,000 mile oil changes.

No, what you will want is to go to your desktop/laptop and have USB stick plugged in, go format it under exFAT and go to owner.ford.com, look under support and then under sync software update and follow the detailed instructions. Once you get it downloaded to your USB stick you can upload it to your truck.

No such thing. While you can choose to change your oil that often, the IOLM won't trigger anywhere near that for most people.

I've been trying to update via WiFi as well. I have extremely fast internet (500 mbps) and it completes the scan in less than a second and then shows it starts to download and then every time it fails about 5 seconds later. I guess I'll be going down the USB stick route as soon as I find where I put them.

I know over USB you must have the truck running in order to install updates, not just in the "accessory on" mode. Also, when you do it over USB, if your USB has a light to show its "doing something" it won't pop up and start right away. Don't be discouraged just leave it and let it do its thing.

Went form 2.3 to 3.0, had to use a USB stick. I got in the truck, turned it on, inserted the USB stick had to wait a minute or two and then it started to update. Literally took almost 30 minutes to do, so make sure you're outside with the truck running and not in the garage.

My first mistake was following Fords video, it said you could install the update even after you turn the truck off for up to 30 minutes. Yeah that didn't work.

Go to settings on your vehicle sync screen and look for your version of sync. Ver 3.0 is the latest.

Go here to see if an update is available for your vehicle:

www.owner.ford.com

When I installed 3.0 in my truck, I inserted the usb, then the wife and I went shopping. Upon our return home, the update was complete.

So if you turn off the truck, it will start again with the update the next time you start.

It can't update if no update is available. Check your owners site.
