There are 7 files in the "syncmyride". My drive was about an hour and 10 minutes. Twice I did this.

  • When I returned there was a message on screen saying that the update was complete.
  • I then shut down the truck for 5 mins.
  • When I started it back up again. The updates took. Most obvious change: Heated Steering wheel button is now on the home screen(!).
  • I then had to go back on my laptop, with the thumb drive and tell the Ford website that the update was successful.
This involved uploading a file, that was generated by my truck during the update procedure.

Man, that does not pass the “little old lady test”. That is entirely too complicated and labor intensive for your average Joe. I’m assuming the dealership will do this during a service. My wife’s BMW gets updated every time its in. The first thing the service guy does is check for updates.

I am glad you mentioned the heated steering wheel icon, I thought it was from me screwing with forscan and then when I was taking it back to the dealer for warranty work I could not get the icon to remove. Now I know it is from the update and not forscan programming.

Lol!! Wasn't too bad of an ordeal. All things being considered.

I gave up and did the USB stick method as well. Pretty sure my stick was ExFAT, the system should be able to read FAT32 as well.

It can be very picky on the USB drive though, no matter the file system. One may not work and the next will work fine.

My 2018 Lariat (purchased in June), had Version 3.0, Build 17276, which came out in Nov 2017. Obviously a factory install. I recently updated to Build 18093, but get an error message at the point when it tries to write back the XML verification file to the USB drive.
It successfully updated to 18093, but without the XML file I'm unable to send it to the owner site for verification. Anyone else experience this? Thought about resetting Sync and upgrading from there, but that's too much work just to clear the owner site "upgrade available" notification - assuming the XML would successfully write with the reset.
Also noticed a few glitches once I upgraded. I'll watch a bit closer and see if I can get pics as they come up.

Exact same problem I've had. Upgrade worked, but reporting back with the .xml file failed. Now, I can't even get to the window to try to upload the .xml anymore. I assume next service at dealer it will report the version to the system?

If anyone has one of the XML files, I'd be really interested in seeing it. I suspect it's a very small data file that might be able to be hand-built to submit to the site.
OpsDad, here's the link to the page to confirm your update (upload XML file): https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...=install-files

That link took me to the download page, NOT the report page. So, I downloaded the file (it was a different filename slightly than the one before) and it wouldn't accept the .xml file I had on my thumb drive. So, I used the newer file downloaded, uzipped, and ran the update again - and brought back in the new file. It worked that way, so I now have a complete install AND it reports such on owner.ford.com. Problem solved.

The newest files were only about a day old - I suggest anyone having problem download again and do the whole shebang again - I suspect they fixed a bug in the whole .xml file reporting mechanism.
