You also need play in the drivetrain for it to clunk, so it doesn't happen every time. For me is a non-issue, and basically impossible to fix on any car, but Ford should have used rubber isolators like other auto makers to avoid that minor annoyance. But yes, the devil is in the details, no? Quality now is like job #10. So I kind of expect things like that. Ha ha.
How long u been working for Ford???

Mine does it loaded or unloaded, resting on parking brake or resting on transmission. Its BS that Ford says its normal. And only one bonehead on this thread is ok with it.

What is the best method for opening a case with Ford?

i don’t want to go to the dealership but I want to make note of the issues.

Id rather they not have my truck for weeks at a time while not fixing it.

i have the start up Clunk, whistle, tick at idle, and a rumble/shudder in 7th gear.

Not a Ford guy, but thought I would chime in. I have an all new 2019 Ram 1500, that has this same intermittent loud clank on startup noise as well! Of course the dealership couldn’t duplicate the problem. Honestly, I can’t fault them, as it’s very intermittent (maybe only does it 30% of starts). I have found, Interestingly enough, that when I use the keyfob to start the truck, it never does it. It has only done it when using the start/stop button in the cab. It sounds like someone’s hitting the driveshaft with a hammer! That’s probably the best way to describe it.

Damn that's crazy! Interesting, I also heard 2019 Rams having issue with touchscreens going blank or never coming on at all periodically. I know the 10 speed in Fords is a GM/Ford shared project so maybe possible that Dodge has a version of same Tranny too. Not sure

Had the issue happen once in 5k miles. Parked level, no stress on trans and it sounded like it came from the front of vehicle. Scared the hell out of me, I turned it immediately back off and restarted with no issue.

Haha, my wife and I were leaving a baseball game and she was standing outside with passenger door open, and I started the truck...she literally jumped in the air it scared her so bad! It’s interesting I’ve seen this on Ford threads, BMW, Ram...seems like its some kind of characteristic of all this new fangled tech they’ve got now. It sure is embarrassing when it happens though. Kind of ridiculous when you consider how much we all pay for these things!

If so, what options are available to you?
Can they actually refuse to look at your truck?
Yep. But just document it. Make sure they give you an invoice. It might come in handy later on. My lemon law case against Ford is wrapping up and not maintaining the details was something my attorney told me is the number one reason people lose these cases. An attempt to fix a problem by presenting the vehicle to the dealership is an attempt regardless of whether or not they did anything at all. Ford knows this, they just hope people give up.

Mine does this too. I shake my head and get on with my day. It is not like it is just a small thump fwiw. On occasion its a very noticeable.
