So, has anyone had a failure related to the startup clunk?

I haven’t yet. Just when I think mine stopped making the clunk when cranking it does it again. Now the sluggish and clunky gear shifting has not ceased I bit.

when is your trucks build date? there is a TSB out to reprogram the PCM for the shifting problems. Had it done on mine

I have "the clunk" happening on mine (2018 Lariat, 5.0, 4x4). It seems to happen more on cold start vs warm/hot start and will happen whether I use remote start from the keyfob or do it while sitting in the vehicle. I always put it in Park and then set the parking brake before removing my foot from the service brake pedal, but it does not clunk every time I cold-start it after that parking procedure. Does not matter if the nose is level, pointed uphill or pointed downhill.

It's got 12k miles now but has done it off and on since day one, in March.

If it becomes more consistent, I'll take it in and whine more about it. I did have the transmission TSB taken care of but it didn't change this clunking at all - figured it wouldn't, but good data point to have.

2018 XLT, 2.7 and 10 speed. Mine has had the startup clunk since it was new, and now with 2300 miles on it, still does it on occasion. I can go for many startups with no noise, then out of nowhere, it does it. The one time that I have remote started it, (just to try the remote start) it made the noise. I was standing about 5 feet to the left of the driver's side rear tire when it did it. Sounded like it came from either the rear of the driveshaft or differential area.

Truck just turned 5000 miles. It's been doing it since new. I am going to reach out to the dealership tomorrow because it's brand friggin new and this is unsat.

Unless ya'll open a case with Ford and the techline, nothing is going to get resolved. And probably not even then, but if they dont have numbers of customers complaints, no movement. We really need a law firm to run with this.

mine was built in early 18. Supposedly the TSB is for the late 17’s. I told them about it and the dealership basically said it should have the updated TSB. Now I have the Blue Driver and it doesn’t show any updates for mine. I will check again just to be sure.
How much good did the update do to your shifting?
