Shift Mistake
Like others have said, everything is fine. However, the question is in my mind of how did you go a full city block at 5,000RPMs and not notice they were up there? There should've been several shifts between there...
j/k
Thanks for the replies. Song I like was playing and general head up butt moment. I've never used the manual shift feature before. It's really easy to go right past D and stop on M! For a few seconds I wasn't comprehending why my truck wasn't shifting. Ugh!
I am sure it has happened to a lot of others as well!
OP, I did something similar in a Fiat 500 rental when my 2011 was having it's steering rack replaced. Of course I just laughed my *** off since it was a rental. Pretty sure the computer is going to keep you from doing any real harm to either engine or trans. Lots of safeties in place these days.

I did something similar accidentally locking out 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 from D. Was surprised that the truck let me rev as high as it did without shifting, as I wasn't stepping in to the throttle, I noticed it pretty much right away when I was at 4000 RPM and not shifting.
I miss the way my old (2011) Sonata with paddle shifters worked. I could set it to manual mode and then just stomp on it and it would get to about 1k RPM from redline and automatically shift (usually skipping a gear or 2).

You get used to the shifting after a bit. I pretty much let go of the shift lock button once it gets out of park and it slides through R-N-D but stops there. It won't let you go from D to M without pressing the lock button again.
