Default Shift Mistake

Today I went through a local drive-through and put my vehicle into park while waiting for my order. As I was leaving I inadvertently went past the drive selection and into the manual transmission selection mode. I left the business parking lot and accelerated into the traffic lane to keep up with the flow of traffic not knowing that my gear shifter was in manual. I saw that the RPMs were up around 5000 RPM's for about one city block before I let off the gas and slipped the gearshift into the normal drive position. Should I worry that I have hurt my transmission/engine in anyway? It seemed to drive okay, but certainly startled me! My truck is a '15 Lariat Screw 502A with a 3.5 ecoboost.

You let off the gas before you changed the gearshifter, so you should be fine. And the rev limiter would have kept the RPMs from getting too high.

Totally fine. All you did was let your truck clear out its lungs a bit!

I did that in my 2011 accidently and the computer shifted into the next gear before any damage occurred. I would not worry about it.

Your motor and tranny will probably explode violently in the next couple hundred miles. Trade it in while you can and run.

jk, it will be fine

thats how most 5.0s rev normally to keep up with traffic so its no biggie.

If the engine was not stone cold, which is wasn't since you had already driven to the drive through, you have done no harm whatsoever.

The lesson learned is to keep out of drive-throughs! Your transmission will outlast your liver.
