Ugh that sucks fwayne! Same thing happened to me few yrs ago on an Edge with remote hatch release. Went into garage, hit the garage opener and up it went dragging the hatch with it till it jammed up!! I got lucky and NO damage to the vehicle but the inside of garage door wasn't so lucky haha. Oh and by the way don't order that leather key fob off Amazon, it does NOT fit these 2015 truck fobs, the pattern is backwards. What I found works perfect. It's a small nylon pouch, like a leatherman goes in, and has a velco top flap. I leave it in that and in my pocket and no more accidental button pushes. Got mine in the fishing section at Bass Pro for 9 bucks. Comes with cheapie leatherman type tool that I threw in the console.

The remote tailgate release is pretty useless.

Check my post yesterday. Guess you missed it lol. I was thinking that button should be reprogrammed to lower the windows. It'd be nice on a hot day to let the heat out.

What I did was take apart the key fob and cut off the 'nub' that activates the panic switch and the 'nub' that activates tailgate. No more worries

Not sure why manufacturers don't recess their buttons on their key fobs. Still easy to press and they won't get pressed as easily in your pockets. Nissan key fobs are horrible for this. Don't know how many times I set off the panic alarm or walked out with my windows rolled down on my Altima. My 97 Mustang key fob had recessed buttons.

Luckily I haven't had any problems with my truck fob yet, but because it's so big I usually don't keep it in my pants pocket.

Or, buy a hinged type tonneau cover that always prevent the tailgate to drop when bed cover is closed.

However, you need to open/lift the cover first every time you want to lower down the tailgate or use the bed.

The door on my cap keeps the tailgate from opening.. It's a win/lose for me depending on what I need.

The actuator only has 2 wires. The logic is located elsewhere ( likely BCM).

How does the tailgate push it's self open initially before gravity takes over?
Is there a spring somewhere that gets it started falling before the shockstrut lowers the tailgate gradually?

If there is an initial spring action, then just remove/disable the spring so that it unlocks but doesn't fall.

That is the functionality I want on my XLT... I just have to buy a $50 shock strut.

Howdy.

If there is a spring it must be very weak; if the truck is nose-down at all, the gate does not move ( small added friction from the tonneau trailing edge notwithstanding ). Level, or nose-up, it just smoothly drops, presumably facilitated/aided by the rearward offset center-of-mass of the gate's design relative to the axis of the pivot points. And - possibly a small additional impetus from the latches as they pivot ( s.w.a.g - have not looked at them ).

Thanks fer giving me yet more stuff to think about!

Cheers

Modifying the fob seems to me the best solution. I wish they would have made it a 3 or 4 button push, something different than 2, like the dbl push for remote start....

Even a push for 5 seconds continuous...

So sad that this got past user testing.. I'm freaking we are going to drop the tailgate in the garage, and the same thing happens to ours.. I pull as far forward as I can to hopefully prevent it..

I'm so sorry this happened, I would have just @#$%
