Default Remote Tailgate Warning

Woke up this morning, opened garage like every workday and heard the sickening sound of the garage door raking up my tailgate of my brand-new KR

Now I have a horribly scratched latch and paint because the tailgate was opened accidentally sometime in the night.

FORD: YOUR KEY FOB DESIGN SUCKS!!!!!! I have set off the alarm and opened my tailgate too many times. Ford you are better than this. I'm now so desperate I'm considering damaging my own key fob to disable a very desirable feature because its simply stupid how easy the thing is set off. (apparently no way to disable the remote tailgate release via settings)

Even having to press the tailgate release twice and it still somehow got tripped resulting in a gut wrenching mess. I haven't even made my first payment!!

Has anyone else had this happen?

1) your signature says 3.4 Eco

2) Im on the fence about this option. If my hand is free to press the button to lower the tailgate, is my hand not free to just manually open it? I mean its cool I suppose, but just not sure how practical it really is?

3) that sucks. bad. Pics?

I'm afraid I'm gonna make a mistake and open it when I remote start it and I'm backed into a spot.... and the garage door thing also worried me.... however neither has happened. What I did is found what spot on the guidelines on the camera meant I had room to open the tailgate in the garage. .. and I never back into a spot anymore.... sorry that happened bud but once you get it fixed these tips should prevent it from happening again.

I would be happy to have an on/off slide button or switch to turn off the remote so that I would not activate the remote in my pocket. Kind of like the switch on the side of an I-phone.

I think I will always be thinking about that if i park backed in to a wall in a parking garage or even worse, another vehicle. This should have been able to be disabled in the menus. I would prefer to ONLY open my tailgate by hand anyway. May be there is some internal setting that a Ford dealer can change for a $150 fee?

I'm sure it would be very easy to pop off the panel on the tailgate and permanently disable the remote feature if you really wanted to. (unplug wires to actuator or unhook linkage to actuator).

Yeah - and that would prevent you from ever opening the tailgate - even with the pushbutton on the tailgate handle.

The actuator only has 2 wires. The logic is located elsewhere ( likely BCM).

smartest thing to do would be to just break it on the remote fob(s), vs actually messing with the truck. Assuming you cant turn it off from the settings. You probably can disable it on the BCM, but it would require a reflash without that option.

Maybe if you cover the connectors in liquid electrical tape for that button? It wont be able to make a good connection and thus wont work? And since its electrical tape, you are still safe.

Right-O.

If'n ye were to search fer the several threads whur fellers is disablin' they PANIC buttons on they FOBs, same (reversible) process would apply, I reckon.

Me neighbours think I'm a-kissin' me truck when I press thet thar 5-6 keypad button wif me schnozz, lol. Hands-free FTW, aight!

Cheers!
