I was able to program the fob to allow it to start the truck, but none of the buttons work, and it will only start the truck when in the cradle. I have tried swapping out the batteries, to no avail. The truck came with the three button fob w/o tailgate release and remote start, and the fob I bought on eBay has these features. I was planning on enabling Remote start w/ Forscan. Any suggestions?

Same thing with mine. Also had to follow the online instructions below from the ford website. After this the buttons would work as well as starting the truck etc.

Put the new unprogrammed Intelligent Access key in the center console pocket.
Press the driver or passenger power door unlock control three times.
Press and release the brake pedal once.
Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
Press and release the brake pedal once.
The indicator on the Start/Stop button should begin to flash quickly, indicating that the programming mode has been entered and two programmed Intelligent Access keys have been detected in the vehicle.
Within one minute, press the Start/Stop button.
A message will be displayed on the message center indicating that the new Intelligent Access key was programmed.
Remove the Intelligent Access key from the center console pocket and press the unlock control on the newly programmed Intelligent Access keys to exit the programming mode.
Verify that the new Intelligent Access key’s remote entry functions operate by pressing lock, then unlock, and then starting the vehicle.

Your new Intelligent Access key is ready to use.

Sorry, can't help you then. My key worked wirelessly just the buttons did nothing. Sounds like a power issue / dud key. Don't mean to insult but you did put the insulator back between the two batteries right? Positive sides together?

Yeah, batteries are in correctly. The remote has some life because if I try to use the remote start, the remote LED flashes the three red flashes to signal the start failure.

I bought a second key and got the same results. I now have 4 admin keys according to the truck. None of the remote features work on the two new keys, but they will start the truck if placed in the slot. This is driving me insane. Is there any way to reset the system and start from scratch?

I just programed a $60 Smart access fob bought from E-Bay. I programmed it from the instructions on page three of this thread and allowed 5 sec between commands. The fobs were in the button up position when in the "learning" pocket. They programmed the first attempt. By the way my pickup is a 16 F150 Lariat with sync 3. Super easy.

Picked up a 3rd key and tailgate dampener today. Took 4 tries but got it programmed on my 2016 lariat. Of note for bench seats the buttons need to be to the rear, figured out that its listed in the manual, but under the starting section not the key section. Manual programming instructions didn't work. Using those here at the 3 second rate did, with the lock and message confirming it at the end.

Thanks for the help! Should be getting the extra key with the 'trunk' button on it in the mail later this week to test out the remote release. I in-advertently dropped it with the door keypad the other day so I'm not expecting any issues there.

Just want to say thanks for instructions earlier in the post. I purchased two keys off EBay and programmed just fine to my truck. So four keys total now.

The two blank physical keys I found a LockShop to do. I guess not everyone can cut the 'sidewinder' style keys.
