Default Overheating....coolant empty.

Hey Gang -

My 2017 FX4 3.5EB starting running hot last night (up to 252 at max) - took it to dealer this morning and....the coolant is empty (well, at least the tank you can see.

It's odd, because I haven't had any puddles of anything - and, I park in the same places frequently...so, I think I would notice. Anyway, 14.5k miles....so, all covered.

the kicker: I have the extended warranty, which covers a loaner. They gave a 2018 Mustang (manual trans) with the 2.3l ecoboost motor.

Driving home, I felt like a teenager again.

It made me laugh when they triple checked I could drive a manual.....I guess it's a dying skillset.

Thats not good--Hopefully just a loose line someplace that gradually oozed coolant out, and the bigger worry is a leaking head gasket, Im sure they will do a pressure test on your coolant system

Why am I not surprised reading this! lol

Make sure to keep the warranty job papers... Curious to see what your issue is. Hopefully nothing internal.

^ Hopefully on the ground.

OP, did you really not pop the hood and notice the empty tank right in the very front of the truck in plain view? It's the first thing you see... Just wondering!

And yes, driving stick is a dying skill. I miss it, this being my first automatic ever... And I really miss than none of my friends/family could borrow my vehicles. It was always;

Friend : Hey can I borrow your truck?
Me : Can you drive stick?
Friend : Uh, no....
Me : Then no.

I had to give up 5 speeds due to bad knees.

It's possible a hose is loose, and would leak enough but catch in a crevice, etc., and just evaporate from engine heat. Did you not ever check the oil or fill up the washer fluid reservior??

This happened on my 2012 and the coolant reservoir had a tiny crack. The coolant was leaking onto my steering shaft, which is why I couldn’t see it on the ground. And it corroded the crap out of the steering shaft. Bottom of coolant reservoir might have crack.
