Default Howling and clunking.........

Took truck in yesterday for howling at 55 to 60 under load (going up hills). Also has clunk as though there is excessive play in drive train. Mainly does it after stopping then it clunks as soon as pressing on gas. Also from forward to reverse. Hope they find the problem!!!!! Don't want to hear "oh that's normal!!"

Your not alone man... Have the same clunking noise as well. Does it coming to a stop or after I stop and start to take off. Also happens when I'm at low speed such as slowing down for a red light...goes green...apply throttle...CLUNK. Driving me nuts! Had it in to the dealer and of course they couldn't make the truck do it. It only had 1000km on it so said it's equipped with an adaptive transmission and they won't relook until 5k is on it. Have done a lot of research on this and I think it needs the slip yoke lubed. Look up TSB 09-25-05 that describes what's happening. Unfortunately, it's from the last generation of truck so they probably won't even look at that as a cause but who knows. I too don't want to hear "that's normal". It's not. 52 GRAND and feel sick to my stomach every time I drive it. Although, knowing possibly what the cause is makes me feel a little better about it all. Don't have the howling problem in mine. I'm going to schedule appointment in a few weeks and this time will take the tech out and make sure he knows exactly what I'm hearing. How you could miss it is beyond me. Keep us posted...

The coyote does howl at high RPMs, that's normal.

The clunk however sounds like an issue, cant say I've ever had that. Does the clunk sound like its from the transmission? Are you watching the gear you are in? Could it be an abrupt downshift during a slow and go situation?

Yes the clunk sounds like transmission clunk. The high pitch whine sounds like rear end but after they tested it they said its tranny noise. Its a high pressure hydraulic sound between 55 and 60. More in sport mode but also in drive. They talked to ford engineers and they said its normal. I have driven 2 other 2015s and they didnt make either noise. Made sure they had same engine and gear ratio. Does anyone else hear the noises im experiencing?

My tranny howls under acceleration when in Sport mode and AWD going uphill at a slight angle. Also I have a clunk as I let off the gas from what appears to be a downshift...

I spoke with csr. They are going to reflash tranny again. Guess their were two tsbs on harsh shift issue. Im getting the one that supersedes the first one. Hope this takes care of the "clunk problem". Then the whining problem will still need to be addressed. One step at a time i guess.

I have the same clunking/play in driveshaft feeling as you. First dealership said it was normal. Second dealership greased the slip yoke and it didn't fix it. Here's something to try (when you can do it safely): When decelerating to a complete stop, put it in neutral at 25-30 MPH or so and at some point you should feel a slam while rolling to a stop. It could still be the slip yoke and grease isn't going to fix it- I don't know. I plan to show the dealership this on the next visit to prove that something is not right, though. A vehicle should coast to a stop completely smoothly in neutral.

I also had the harsh downshift TSB done and this does not correct the clunking either.

Moford what year, rear end do you have. I tried what you said putting it into neutral and sure enough it did the exact same thing as your truck. I will also bring this to their attention. Was the slip yoke lube covered under warranty or did they charge you for this?
