Default F100

I wonder why Ford doesn't rebadge the Low-GCWR 6070-6500 GVWR Trucks as F100 and leave the 6750-7850 GVWR Trucks F150?

It's an iconic name and would reduce issues among the general public who buy a loaded Lariat 2.7EB only to find out it won't scale with their 6000 lb travel trailer (10xx Payload doesn't leave much to work with if you have two kids and a dog).

Joe Public will still get on the forums and ask if it can tow their 15k 5th wheel...

Ford already attempts that with the F250 / F350 and it doesn't work. A high trimmed F250 4x4 w/ 9900 GVWR derate and High Capacity Trailer Tow Package has an abysmal payload number. Yes, this is more of a paper (sticker) limitation but the trucks are still running well over GVWR at high loads.

Marketing... F150 is the staple name for Ford trucks in this day and age... and second if you separate a portion of the F150 pie to another name, you take away from the F150 sales numbers.... Ford wants to keep F150 name as the best seller.... And besides, i prefer to say I own an F150... not an F100

Ford doesn't break out the F150 separately.
The F-Series is the best selling vehicle in America and has been since 1981 (When it passed the Oldsmobile Cutlass).

I think there is some merit here. Ford has a F-250 and F-350, with the only real difference being tow capacity. Why can’t that extend down to the F-150 line?

Because that doesn't fix the issue - Joe Public sees "Super Duty" and assumes it can tow their 20k 5er when they ran out off payload yesterday. Spend any amount of time on the Super Duty forms and you will see.

The only saving grace there is that those trucks are at a paper limit, not mechanical like the lower payload F150s.

Lariats have less than 1100lbs payload? Are they that heavy?

My 2.7 XLT crew has almost 1700.

502A with 20" Wheels, Big Tank, Pano Roof Manstep, Sprayin Liner and Power Sidesteps etc... Yes they are. 11xx is more common though.

You can get an XLT pretty close to 12xx if you try hard enough. Someone just posted one without the Pano roof with 13xx Sticker.
